Phil Pressey breaks finger, out up to two weeks
The freshman point guard who was beginning to post some eye-popping assist totals apparently won't be availalble for Braggin' Rights. Details as we get them.

Well that sucks
hopefully the team responds like the football team. They had a lot of things thrown at them and came out of them just fine.

At least we've seen the team's more than capable
of playing at a high level without Phil doing much.
Hope Matt’s got his head on, we’re going to need him Wednesday. I love Kreklow, but he’s a bad matchup against Illinois’ guards in large doses.

Is Phil Pressy a walk on?
Phew! For a second I thought it said that Phil PressEy would be out for two weeks.

shit... he was just starting to find his rhythm.
You don't have to come and confess, we lookin' for you, we gon' find you, we gon' find you. So you can run and tell that, Homeboy.
Let's hope that M.Pressey and Dixon are back.

if not
kimmie’s going to get an awful lot of minutes at the point. 10 assists against uca, you know.

Interestingly,
there was one possession very late in the UCA game where it was very clear that Kimmie was running the point (with PPress on the floor, which is why it stuck in my head). Suffice it to say that it’s not something that we would love to see during the Illinois game.

I should clarify...
I don’t mean Kimmeh is incapable of running the point sporadically, but against the Illini, we’re going to need Dixon at point the majority of the game.

said “let’s hope mpressey and dixon are back”. since phil is out. who do you recommend for point guard duty if both those guys are unavailable? (not likely, but for discussion’s sake.) i’d hate to take denmon out of the shooting guard role, so i vote for kim.

Jarret Sutton?
Just kidding. If both presseys and dixon are out? Gah, errr….I think I’d say Denmon, just because I feel more comfortable that he can still play at a high level, regardless of a positional adjustment. Kimmeh has struggled, and I think having him run point would just confuse his game more.

Indeed.
I’m agreeing, really— the direction of conversation just reminded me of that particular possession. It was very uncomfortable. Kimmie did not seem comfortable on the ball, and Phil did not seem comfortable without the ball. Part of that could have been the circumstance (which won’t be duplicated if Phil doesn’t play, clearly).

no p.pressey, no dixon , unless a miracle happens no mitchell, man i hope our guys play their guts out, i have faith in them but man this getting rediculous
And we're still 9th in the nation.
Dixon will carry the load just fine. He’s a stud, and I have a feeling he’ll be determined to impress us in his return, especially against our rival to the east.

Saw your recap of Central Arkansas and your statement that Mizzou will not lose a game in which their BCI is 5x that of the opponent, which I agree with. What I was wondering, though, is what is the greatest BCI differential Mizzou has had in a game that they lost? And how did they lose that game?
Don’t know if that would tell us anything interesting or not, but its a question that got sparked in my mind.

In the last 2 seasons (2009-10 and this season)
We’ve lost 12 games
Date – Opponent – Mizzou’s BCI – Opponent’s BCI – Ratio
11/30/2010 Georgetown 2.58 1.61 1.6
3/21/2010 WVU 2.71 1.6 1.7
3/10/2010 Nebraska 4.5 1.62 2.79
3/6/2010 Kansas 1.91 1 1.91
2/27/2010 KSU 0.88 1.64 0.54
2/13/2010 Baylor 2 1.15 1.73
2/3/2010 A&M 2.25 0.90 2.49
1/25/2010 Kansas 3.4 0.96 3.55
1/16/2010 Oklahoma 2.18 0.65 3.36
12/9/2009 Oral Roberts 1.91 1.06 1.81
12/2/2009 Vanderbilt 2.31 0.83 2.77
11/28/2009 Richmond 2.71 1.6 1.7
So, in 12 losses, we’ve had one game in which our BCI was WORSE than our opponent (K-State in Manhattan) and 2 games where our BCI was nearly 3 1/2 times our opponent’s (KU in Lawrence and Oklahoma in Norman).
And, in the game against UCONN
We had a 5.17 BCI, compared to UCONN’s 1.06 – a 4.9 multiple… and we lost by 7
WOW... 11/20/08 vs. Xavier
We had a 4.86 BCI… but Xavier had a .64 BCI. A multiple of 7.63!!!!
And, we lost by 4.
Note, we shot 15-31 from the free throw line.
Thanks I appreciate the effort you went to
Sounds about right, although I am surprised that there was only one loss where Mizzou’s BCI was worse than their opponent – I guess that means they are so good at running that system that they can’t really be beaten at that game, but only if the other team has something in reserve that changes the complexion of the game. Like Hasheem Thabeet.
Also, makes sense that the only loss with a lower BCI than the opponent would be against KSU, another pressing, fast-paced team.
