Well...

Another part of Mizzou culture is in the national news:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/24/AR2010022401317.html

I am so damn sick of seeing those things…

Wait...

…THAT is a Washington Post article? Ohhhhkaaaaay…

No Men books

Don’t have time to catalog those drinks. They have hospital stays to attend too…

This could turn into a discussion about our 21st celebrations.

actually, it's an AP story

written by an AP reporter in CoMo. I’ll stay neutral except to say his work’s been criticized before (cf. Aaron O’Neal)

I think the national Kappa office . . .

will be calling Ms. Schiemeier.

Prosecutors and plaintiffs’ lawyers must love those books. Nice to have the defendant compile all of the evidence for you.

Evidence of what?

if you’re 21 it’s not illegal to drink, even if you do so stupidly.

by jschooltiger on Feb 25, 2010 9:56 AM CST up reply actions

I'm certainly no lawyer, so I wonder...

But can negligence be cause for damages?

TB or Atch, care to shed any light on this?

by RPT on Feb 25, 2010 10:29 AM CST up reply actions

Ditto what Atch said

And the story alluded to possible dram shop liability for the bar(tenders) who serve these people. It’d be essentially the same cross exam Atch outlines, except substitute the bartender for the girl drinking, and note that they saw the shot book and knew they were serving someone their 12th shot of the night.

there's a question

if the bartender sees the book, is it their responsibility to tract drinks heading to said drinkers table and determine what is enough? Further, if the group (a stereotype, but assuming these girls went out in groups) is moving between bars, does the responsibility of the following bartenders/bars heightened? Should bouncers check books?

Seems like there’s just too many lose strings. Not my area of expertise, which adds to my confusion.

Evidence of drunkeness

Being drunk isn’t a crime, but a whole lot of crimes and liability follow from drunkeness. The cross examination goes a little something like this:

Q. Had you been drinking before the accident that paralyzed Mrs. Jones and killed her three year old daughter?
A. I’d had one drink to celebrate my birthday.
Q. Have you seen this book before?
A. Yes.
Q. This is your “shot book” isn’t it?
A. Yes.
Q. And it’s called a “shot book” because it shows you drinking shots of liquor, correct?
A. Yes.
Q. And these photos were all taken the night of the accident that left Mrs. Jones paralyzed and her daughter dead?
A. Yes.

 . . .

A. And this photo shows you drinking your ninth shot of the night?
Q. Yes.
A. That’s a shot called Sex on the Beach?
Q. Yes.
A. So just before the accident that paralyzed Mrs. Smith and took her daughter’s life, you were having Sex on the Beach?
Q. Yes.
A. Your ninth shot of liquor of the night?
Q. Yes.

The Mrs.

was KKG. She has never even heard of this crap.

I haven’t seen it before. Maybe it has just poped up in the last two years.

Further info from the Mrs.

a peak into KKG.

She said they used to have shot cards, but nothing like taking pictures. They would keep track of shots they took. This again, was only 2-3 years ago.

So this scrap booking thing has started since.

I blame the be-dazzler if you ask me.

I'm really going to miss Randy Wright

I had the chance to meet him for some Alumni events and he’s a great guy who really loves Mizzou and all the people at it. Any pre-season recruiting info for announcers?

OK.

I vote we start a “RPT for PA Announcer” campaign.

And the thing is, I’m not kidding. At all. I will find a job in this city after graduation if it means I can be the voice of Faurot Field and Mizzou Arena.

Would I have the support of the RMN community if we tried to push this through?

I am so dead serious right now.

That’s probably one of my two dream gigs, right up there with Mike Kelly’s gig.

by RPT on Feb 25, 2010 10:57 AM CST up reply actions

Do we need to record a podcast...

…where you act like you’re on the PA system the whole time?

YES YES YES YES YES

How does your..‘BINGO BALL GAME’ sound at 95 decibels?

Oh wait, you need a line. Cuz’ that’s Kellys line.

Randy Wright

Was my boss when I worked at KMIZ. great guy. I went back to a game this season and told him I was planning on going to the Rams game the following day. He asked me to stay in CoMO for an hour before driving to StL. He met up with me and handed me 2 tickets to the game. Classy move.
