Why don’t they cull the bad ones and get someone in here that can call a dam game. Remember how the old school coaches (Norm and company) called the sucky ones out and got fined for it. We need more of that.

He gets a lot of strips though
and they’re just as good. Blocked shots are way overrated. So often the ball goes back to the offensive player and they score anyway in the scramble. A strip is more likely to end up as a TO.

that strip on the drive was great. In the paint though he challenges shots of big guys from the weak side a lot and doesn’t ever get the ball, leaving Offensive rebounds open.

It was frustrating because they made one run and we never really answered.
We were a little bit soft when they pushed that lead up and we just couldn’t get anything going. They were playing good defense and we couldn’t find a rythem.

for a team that oftentimes refuses to shoot anything but three pointers it’s a bit odd to see them throw away any chance to win the game by refusing to take a 3 pointer in the last minute of the game.
Yeah, that was really poor.

Against the number 6 team in the country, on the road, and unsurprisingly terrible officiating. And we lost by 10. That game sucked, but ill take it.

A 10-point loss considering the circumstances and how we played is great with me. We’ve got some real weaknesses (offensively anyway) but if we start clicking, we will be a very dangerous mid-level seed in the tourney.

Two runs from K-State was all that was necessary to do us in.
There was very little margin for error coming into this game and after being up 23-13 we couldn’t afford to let the game be tied at halftime at 23 points and that 15-2 run early in the second was the dagger.

Let's look at the positives. There were two really cool commercials.

You are right we cant put all the blame on the officals
we didnt shoot well at at all.
but i am just tired of the officiating in this league being so inconsistent. these guys make mad money, i think they could be better.

i agree we could have played better
but in that regard i give credit to k state for playing great defense. unfortunately when we were playing good defense they would get a bail out foul. there were several times when they got the ball back when they shouldn’t have. those possessions would have come in handy at the end of the game when it was a 2 possession game.
plus with under 8 minutes left k state basically went to a dean smith four corners time sucking offense and were still able to put points on the board due to bail out calls. that will kill a team trying to come back on the road. we can’t “play better” in that situation.

twice! KSU did some nice acting, especially on the intentional. it was another one of the footlocker ref games
Both of the intentional calls basically led to nothing.
They missed all 4 free throws and on the first one, they had a breakaway lay-up and got nothing as we stopped them and on the second they got a 3-pointer. 3 points from 2 intentional fouls was not what did us in.

they shouldn’t have been in position to even make the 3. It basically put the game away. It got the crowd fired up and gave them the momentum

I can’t think of another game in the last 10 years that I genuinely thought might have had a different outcome if the officiating had been fair. This game was a travesty. Those officials were horrible tonight. They should be embarrassed at least, if not formally reprimanded, for that very poorly called game.
That being said, Mizzou did not play it’s A game by any stretch tonight. I’d like to get another shot at these guys with a neutral crew – even on their court. We’ll have to hope we can advance to see them in KC.
Too inconsistent.
The refs let everybody get knocked around so we start playing tighter defense and we get called for accidentally letting some sweat rub on the opponents jersey. Then, somebody jumps on Laurence Bowers and he’s called for a foul because the other guy rolled off of him.

I spent half this live thread bemoaning the officials
and as therapeutic as that was, the officials did not decide the game. They were hilariously inconsistent, and they seemed to accelerate the runs of whatever team was hot, but they didn’t decide the game. Truly neutral officiating probably gets us a few more possessions or free throws, but not enough to make up our deficit. Our problem was a simple lack of execution at the offensive end. Silly turnovers, not making open shots, and a couple very nice defensive plays when we seemed likely to get a hoop were the things that made the difference.

I think the game is just to fast for refs. It seems they are just left behind. Every time somebody falls, they call a foul. Did they ever consider that maybe the guy just tripped?
I think that game was too fast for them.
It’s possible that they gave us Big Ten referees and they couldn’t keep up with everything.

Speaking of other conferences, the pac 10 has no top 25 teams. That’s sad. Cal clinched the regular season title. We beat them by 30

You know evertime we've lost this season..
its been because there were at least 5-10 minutes when we didn’t score anything substantial or nothing at all, not because the other team was playing any better than us the rest of the game. we beat ourselves everytime we lose.
You're right about the droughts, but...
…every team in the country can say the exact same thing about their losses, and it fails to give credit to the opponent, who clearly had a role to play in our losses, especially last night.

but i mean what more can you ask for, than for you team to just score once every three minutes during those droughts? If we had last night, we would have still had the lead at half and not lost all momentum going into the second half. I know k-state is hard to beat at home but we clearly weren’t having that much trouble before the last 5 minutes of the first half. that was just another game we had the opportunity to win and didn’t take advantage of it

…that if KSU had lost, their fans could have said exactly the same thing about droughts and “beating themselves”…losing sucked, but KSU did still have something to do with it (as did the refs, Safford’s absence, Bowers/Denmon sucking, etc.)

yes, but
k-st went something like 12 minutes in the first half without a field goal. and we only managed to stretch the lead to 10. if you can manage to hold a team like k-st to that kind of futility, you have got to take advantage by making open shots. then during our drought that you alluded to, k-st made their shots and put the game away. just a crummy game to watch all the way around.
