Since it's only a one game series and it's up against the Big 12 tournament, I'm keeping it simple, but I have some ideas for some good stuff as the season wears on...

Looks like Coach E went with Joanie Wholestaff for this one
Thomas goes the first three, with Hainey and Nottelmann splitting the other 4 for the 3-0 win. They allowed a couple of hits and I dont think UNI ever threatened to score. Tigers had a 2-run HR in the first and a solo shot in the 6th for the pretty pedestrian win. 5 games this weekend, with two early games apiece on Friday and Saturday. I expect all 4 pitchers to see time this weekend, though I am anxious for LHJK’s preview since I dont know much about our opponents. Hopefully the weather will hold and Mizzou can keep working and winning.

With the number of games this weekend
do you think we might see Joanie Wholestaff the entire time?
Get Thomas in early, get the batters frustrated, then let the rest of the “pen” feast on the nerves that are left?

IMHO
Thomas is a for sure start against San Diego State (received votes in both polls and played over 20 games already) and Illinois (#21/25 and 14-1.) Beyond that, I’d expect to see Nottelmann get a start or two and/or Jana Hainey.
What the hell am I thinking?
we play Illinois immediately after playing SDSU…Thomas won’t start both. If I were Earleywine, I’d probably start Thomas against New Mexico and Nottelmann against Bradley on Friday, then Hainey against SDSU and Thomas vs. Illinois on Saturday with Nottelmann against Illinois State on Sunday.
But then again, he may want Nottelmann against SDSU…in which case, I have no clue what’s gonna happen…
I was thinking the same on Thomas
1st game tomorrow, 2nd game on Saturday. Beyond that, we may see Hainey/Nottelmann/freshman whose name is escaping me get one game each, or all team up to get the other three done. I think Coach E is making a VERY concerted effort to make sure Thomas has plenty in the tank come the conference and post season.

agreed...
Just curious…how much ball do these girls play in the winter between the fall and spring schedules?
Not much to my recollection
My exposure to this was 10 years ago, so certainly things could have changed, but aside from working out in the Devine Pavilion, I dont believe there is much other action beyond lifting and what-not.
Thomas ran out of gas in the Super Regional from best I could tell. She was a freshman and an imposing figure in size. She ran out of gas last year even after missing a good chunk of time. Therefore, she still has not endured the physical difficulty of a full season. I am sure she is in better shape than she was last year, but she is still going to need to be paced.
And let’s be honest. While it is great we are sitting at #3 and certainly within earshot of being #1 should the leaders falter…a loss here and there at this juncture is not the end of the world. Our goal should be top 8, to not only secure a Regional like we did last year, but a Super Regional as well. Getting to the WCWS with a healthy Thomas…well..I’ll take those chances.

I agree
And while it seems far and away determined that this is a two horse race in the Big 12 this year, we need to keep the momentum going, as they’re our first conference opponent. Both us and Oklahoma should be able to steamroll through the Big 12…making our only matchup so vitally important.
But, again, I agree that our main goal should be securing home field until the WCWS. I also agree that Chelsea looked dead after what was really a tough 3 game series with UCLA…..
kid crying…more later….
Your recollection is right
aside from the winter games you see publicized, the team doesn’t have much in the way of game action.
