But overall…I would say half their points are from withiin 2 feet of basket or free throw line.
Anderson will throw a screen..
And then just be left uncovered after for an easy look inside.

i was really hoping
that our shooting was just the result of some bad games. but four games in a row is disconcerting. i really feel that if we shoot like we can our ceiling is the sweet 16. shooting like this, its one and done…
come on darklighter09 teams go through shooting slumps. we will bust out of it sooner or later. i think we are gonna bust out in the 2nd half today
by CincyBlazerFan7180 on Mar 10, 2010 3:05 PM CST up reply actions
i understand that teams have slumps
but we just havent seemed to find a rhythm or focus since the colorado game. maybe its losing safford. maybe playing steeeeeeeeeeve is throwing off the chemistry. maybe we’re pressing. but we cant be shooting this bad this late in the season. its a death sentence

I really hope they haven’t peaked at the wrong time. Maybe this game will wake them up. That said, I usually don’t worry about this team if they’re within 10 at the half.

Uhhh guys...
Our shooting has been terrible all season. I believe our FG% is 11th in the big 12. It’s not a slump. This is just a BAD shooting team. End of story. The question is can defense and hustle overcome that. So far today…no.
its kinda like what happened to the cards last year
they just fell apart at the end. i still believe this is the best squad st. louis has ever put together
In retrospect
04 is considerably better. Rolen and Edmonds were far and away better than anyone not named Pujols will be on the 2010 team.
Not afraid to nitpick
as good as holliday is
i dont think he’ll be able to match the production that edmonds or rolen put out that year. theres a reason all three took MVP votes

Carp was a monster in 04 as well
the wagonmaker will be a far better #2 than we had in 04. but the offense wont be nearly as potent. having to go walker-pujols-edmonds-rolen-sanders was just ridiculous

Edmonds hit 42 bombs in 2004
Holliday will not hit .301/.418/.643 to begin with……and then Edmonds also played GG defense in CF. Somehow Edmonds got really underrated in his time in STL. He was a MONSTER till 2006.
Not afraid to nitpick
2010 holliday > 2004 rolen
or at least, 2004 rolen won’t be “far and away” better than 2010 holliday.

Holliday also won’t hit .314 .409 .598……and then Rolen played some of the best defense at 3B in history.
Not afraid to nitpick
yeah...i just looked up the stats for rolen
god were those three insane. i guess there’s reason we won 105 games that year…
that said, holliday might at least approach those type of numbers. maybe not get there, but i don’t think it’s a stretch to say holliday could hit something like .300/.400/.550

like i said, we’re in agreement that the 2010 team is not going to be good as the 2004 team. that said, they are going to be very good, especially if carp and wainwright pitch like carp and wainwright.
also, ludwick and/or rasmus are capable of producing 75% of what edmonds gave that year, with raz being very good defensively in center field as well.

a 10pt loss, an ot win against a below 500 team, a 23 pt loss, and a 20 pt loss to the worst team in the big 12…..That does not deserve a bid.

Effort
I can’t recall any game this season where Mizzou just plain gave up. One of the things I like about the team is that they keep fighting right until the end, even when they’re way down. It’s tough to beat a team three times in the Big XII. Given how few times Mizzou have been blown out this season, I can’t complain too much. Better for it to happen now than in the big tourney.

"Sorry about him, he's dealing with being an inker. " - Chasing Amy
Getting out-rebounded, giving up a high shooting %
Those can be effort things, especially if he looked at the box and didn’t see much of the game.

"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
i don't think this is CMA's fault
he gives his players the best chance to win. maybe the players just assumed that we would walk again. but it’s also hard to win when the other team is lights out. and when 6 players play above their season averages

I think at this point we can put away the "so much talent" label
He’s been mind numbingly horrible in Conference play. Sure he flashes the Illinois/Texas type games, but those are going to happen when you’re willing to put up 15 shots in 25 minutes whether you’re shooting well or not, defended or not, or fading away or set. To be honest I think he’d be a great 3rd, maybe even 2nd, banana type guy—-matches up well and plays defense, streak shooter can save you, but he’s just not a guy that you should be relying on to score IMO….and he has the highest FG attempts on the team by 100.
Maybe his universally praised work ethic can fix some of the issues going into next year, but it’s just maddening to me right now and given that he continues to bomb shots despite the past 16 games of bad doesn’t give me much confidence. The shot attempts he takes are just not ones that a <40% shooter should be dreaming of; he just doesn’t play within his ability.
Not afraid to nitpick
i think your last statement is more true than anything
he doesn’t play within his own ability. he has flashes of absolute brilliance (texas, marquette, illinois) and tries to be that guy all the time instead of focusing on other, simpler things.
this is a mike anderson project. i think next year english will benefit from another offseason of practice and more help with dixon and denmon maturing another year and pressey coming in.

I see him becoming a great star player.
He’s just a sophomore, by conference teams figured him out and got him to take some shots he didn’t want to take. He has a nice move where he can drive to the basket or put a spin on somebody but all too often he gets trapped. He’ll figure out what to do in a given situation, whether he should jump and shoot or try that spin move when he knows he won’t get trapped and will be able to get to the basket. Also, I can see him working on a nice curl move on the court like Tiller does a lot. That could create some baskets.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
I mean this in a serious manner not a trolly hater manner
Is there an example of a recent player who went from <40% FG% sophomore year to becoming a star?
Not afraid to nitpick
I was actually more poking at you for saying you can only see him being a secondary player.
I can’t deny that he’s been playing poorly as of late (and I mean in the past 17 games) but he certainly has everything there to be a star. Not saying he will, just saying he probably will become that. It’s not exactly abnormal for sophomore players to hit a long slump like this.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
Haha point taken
I mean secondary in the sense that he can’t be the go-to best player on a top 8ish caliber team like a Hansbrough/Evan Turner/John Wall type.

This kind of reminds me of that 6-11 Baylor game we played 2-3 years ago
Where Baylor just shot lights-out, and we could get nothing going.
Try not to take me too seriously
The big difference is that in that game we actually got it down to a couple points in the second half
after being down by 16 at the half. This time we just came out flat and never got out of the funk.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
Honestly
we benefit more losing now, than we do losing tomorrow. In no way am I advocating this loss, but we do get a week to regain composure/teach Kimmy how to be December Kimmy again.
"So we finish the 18th and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know".
And perhaps we can get an announcer who doesn't call him "Kimmy English" every time
and Steve Moore “Stevie Moore”. I mean, nicknames are okay once but not every single time.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
0-6 when down at the half
New goal for the opening round…. but that’s enough moping for me! Light a fire under those guys CMA, please!

And yes I know we won 3 we were down at half this year.

I think I would prefer kicking their ass straight out of the gym (whoever it may be).

Nope, the new goal is to not be down at the half

Then, he’s going to sit on his bed, slowly grab another one from the manager he keeps in his bedroom, calmly slip it on, then angrily take it off again.

teams like Kansas State and then Old Dominion and Illinois on a neutral floor as well with beatdowns of Oregon and Georgia sprinkled in.

Let's not use Oregon and Georgia as benchmarks of anything
beating 15-15 (7-11 Pac-10) and a 13-16 (5-11 SEC East) teams aren’t necessarily going to go down as good wins in many books.
I feel safe that Mizzou is in. A top five team in what is viewed as one of the top 3 conferences this year will be fine.
We were playing for seeding in this tournament.

Oh yeah, I've thought this all season
It’s either everything going in or nothing going in. That’s definitely what’s made this season difficult to watch at times. Hopefully we break out of the bad side of this for the tourney, but this team just hasn’t been the same since Saffy injured himself.

Now that we don't have Safford we went from a team that liked to take a lot of jumpshots
to a team that pretty much relied on taking jump shots. It’s so tough to lose a guy like that so late in the season, too.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
I just can't figure out if it has anything to do with Safford, though.

With Safford Ramsey didn't need to play practically 40 minutes a game.
Also, Safford did have a nice ability to get inside and do some good things with his athleticism. I’m not saying Ramsey or Bowers have that but Bowers was hurt today (which cost us a lot) and Ramsey was completely gassed. Come on Laffy Saffy, I didn’t mean what I said after Baylor! Get back in here!
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
On a side note.
Joe Lunardi had Duke as his overall best team in the tournament yesterday. Scrolling on the bottom line I saw:
Lunardi’s Projected 1-Seeds: Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
That's alpha order
Kansas is Lunardi’s overall #1

Not saying we won't but just throwing it out there..
Kansas State from 2006-2007 Was 22-11 and 10-6 in the big twelve, and did NOT make the NCAA’s. Pretty comparable record to the team this year. However, the big 12 was not the best conference in the country that year so its better. But all of you saying you won’t have a sigh or relief on selection sunday are lying.
I am 100% confident that Missouri gets in the tournament.
And you can quote me on that. There will be no sigh of relief for me on Selection Sunday. There will only be an approving nod.

Their RPI was 17 spots worse than Mizzou's is currently.
And their KenPom ranking was 35 spots worse.
Granted, both of Mizzou’s rankings here will sink after today, but … not that much. And this current bubble is just horrendous. This loss almost certainly doesn’t even put us in Last Eight In territory.

I hate playing mid-majors in the tournament, especially in the first round.
"Sometimes when Will Ebner tackles people, I think they are going to explode on impact."
Those of us out here in the Wild West
don’t cotton too well to folks calling UNLV or any MWC school a mid-major (spits into imaginary spittoon).
In all seriousness, though, UNLV would be a bad draw. Too similar to UNLV in some respects. Not quite fastest 40 mins, but counts on deep bench and relatively intense defensive pressure.
We could win, but it would be a coin flip, I would say.
