A couple of things...

If we don't run-rule both of these games, I'm going to be seriously disappointed. Kasha Kolb is the Shockers "ace" and she's rocking a 2.75 ERA (team-best); allowing 22 earned runs in 56 innings of work. The #2 pitcher will most likely be Katie Armagost who sports a 2.79 ERA in 37.2 innings. Kasha has struck out 53, while the rest of the team has managed 36 collectively.

Their mascot is the "Shocker". I have no idea why their mascot is this...I thought the shocker was something COMPLETELY different: 28bxlzt_medium

I'm adding baseball stuff to the softball threads. I need a catchy name. Post some ideas below. Winner will be put on the *new* baseball/softball post on Thursday. I expect great things from RMN...don't let me down now.

Numbers:

Nottelmann:

4 IP, 2H, 0ER, 14BF, 6K, 1 BB

Nottelmann is easily a #1 picher on just about any other team in the country….

by CPC on Mar 17, 2010 4:38 PM CDT reply actions

whoooa there big fella...

am gonna reign you in just a tad on that statement.

Yes….Nottelmann had a pretty dominant outing today. And yes, she certainly saved our hide last year while Thomas was out with her injury. And while I am as high on this team as any (both now and their future), I can’t really agree with that.

Nottelmann came into today’s game with an ERA over 2.40 and 16 walks to 32 innings (with 27 K’s). She does a great job of limiting the big hits (only 4 XBH’s on the season, all HR’s strangely enough), but she is going to keep working on her consistency, as well as her out pitch. Got a lot of people looking today, which is good. And I would go as far as to say she has a solid shot to be a #1 on almost all teams outside the top 25, but there are still some darn good pitchers out there as well. Right now, her stats/ratios dont match her up against the top 10 in the conference.

Don’t worry…she is going to be a HUGE piece of what we do and I will certainly take her at this point as a #2 (which I think she will settle into as the season wears on over Hainey).

I would not mind seeing us get a couple of runs here

only because I would still like to see Muller get a little time.

The way I see it, we need two pitchers next year. One of them can be Muller…and I think at least another one will come via recruiting. But I think four arms is the way to go and I would like to see her get some time now, since I think innings will be a little tougher to come by as we get into the conference season.

I'd be somewhat surprised to see Muller pitch today

I could see her getting some action this weekend though with so many games and some not great teams coming in.

by ZOUTiger on Mar 17, 2010 5:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I dont think it would be that surprising

Thomas has clearly got the work in she needs to today. Hell…he split the first game. If the Tigers put up a bunch of runs here, I could completely see Muller getting an inning or three.

He almost always splits Nottelmann/Hainey though

And Chelsea is almost fully recovered from some arm numbness. I feel that coach wants to see if she can give us some innings without feeling any numbness or pain in that arm afterwards.

by ZOUTiger on Mar 17, 2010 6:01 PM CDT up reply actions

OK...but again..contingent on the idea we had scored some runs

ALMOST recovered is not recovered. And she has thrown quite a few pitches already today in almost 5 innings. IF Mizzou had scored a bunch of runs to push out this lead, I would have expected to see Muller come in.

Coach says she's 95% and could be 100% this weekend

And he wants to make sure the new training/therapy they are giving her is able to withstand a full workload. Plus, coach has made it clear that Muller isn’t really in the plans in terms of pitchers this season.

Then I guess I find it strange she has pitched at all

Looks like maybe we have lost LHJK, so let's get caught up

Mizzou went scoreless in the 4th against a new hurler for WSU after getting a couple of runners on with 2 down when Lee lined out.

Thomas took the mound to start the 5th and has another K (8) and another BB (3). She also just gave up her first hit of the day (a double), so WSU has second and third with 1 down in the 5th with the Tigers up 2-0.
