The only thing good about Bob Huggins is that he lead Frank Martin to Manhattan.
That was a fun game, and we need to continue doing that (driving, getting fouled, being aggressive and, uh, swarmy on defense) if we’re going to have a chance Sunday.
OR, we can just have Huggins perform like he has for the last 17 years in the NCAA:
He has gotten out of the 2nd round only 3 times since 1994 (and has only missed the tournament once.
He's gotten knocked out of the second round 8 times since 1994.
That round number was not the last one they won in, it was the last one they reached. So when it said “Second Round” he won a single game in the tournament before being knocked out.

I don't think enough has been mentioned about Mike Dixon.
Not sure if the haircut made him more aerodynamic or something, but he was playing great. The stats don’t show it but he was playing the point very well, I thought and made a couple of really nice acrobatic lay-ins.

One last note on the game, and especially the crowd today..
It’s so nice hearing fans in neutral site games rooting for Mizzou again. That is such an underrated aspect that was missing during the Quin years. No longer is Mizzou the most hated team in America, but neutral fans now enjoy watching and rooting for Mizzou when they dont have a dog in the race. A very good feeling again.
The MIZ-ZOU chant sounded great, too.
Good showing by the Mizzou followers too, and of course the people there with no rooting interest can sometimes help. I’m just glad they’re not rooting against us now.

I don't mean to ruin anything that Bill's cooking up in his statnerdery5000 post about WVU...
…but the two things that immediately jump out at me from studying KenPom:
-They are the single-best offensive rebounding team in the nation.
-They don’t play a slow pace…they play an absurdly slow pace (311th out of 347 teams as far as adjusted pace).

I think that the key will be to really knock down jumpshots.
Clemson liked our pace (at least more than any other team) and we got easy buckets, but WVU won’t turn the ball over nearly as much. Kimmy, JT, Bowers and Ramsey played really well today, but we’ll need Denmon, Taylor, and probably even Miguel Paul to play great games.

No. It means that if we replaced J.T. Tiller with a tortoise, you wouldn't notice a difference
because the game will move so slowly.
Note: I am not advocating in any way, shape or form that J.T. Tiller should be benched in favor of a tortoise, I am simply saying that Tiller, one of our quickest players, will be slowed down a lot indicative of how West Virginia slows down the game.

We’ve played them 3 times in the last 2 years and he’s done terrible against minus the near meltdown at Okie State last year. Seems every other time I watch them he’s damn near unstoppable

I do not get the announcers say fouling the losing team on a layup in the last minute is a bad foul.
They say its because it stops the clock. But an easy layup stops the clock inside a minute too. Seems to me like it doesn’t make any difference on time. Might as well not give up the easy points.

I gurantee there are at least a few lane violations a game that aren't called.
Its just not a call that should decide a close game.

it was the player who stepped in the lane in violation of the stated rules of basketball. One of my huge pet peeves is refs that “let them play” at the end of the game. Just call the dang plays as you see them, whether there’s 10 minutes or 10 seconds left.

Typecasting. At 6’5", Smith has the kind of height and lanky build — dare I day, the length — that sometimes makes him look more like a wide receiver, or a least a tight end, than a defensive end, especially when he showed up around 235 pounds as a true freshman. That may be one of the reasons he only earned three stars from Rivals as a recruit, and subsequently redshirted as a true freshman behind veterans Stryker Sulak and Tommy Chavis in 2008. If I'm remembering tip times from the first day correctly
and they are analogous, my preliminary guess (and it’s just that) is 2:35 central. This is completely only based on trying to match tip times from Day 1 to the WVU and Mizzou tip times from today… and I’m not certain I’ve got it right.
