Wow

Just imagining it…. If Wes Johnson stayed at Iowa State, Missouri might not be in the tourney

And Iowa State would be a much better team than they were and they could possibly be still

playing in the NIT or something.

Heck, I could see them in the NCAA's as a 10 seed or something

I'm not sure just Johnson would get them there,

but definitely if they still had Mike Taylor or even that one foreign guy who would be eligible but left the team before the season (I forget his name).

Gilstrap, Brackins, Johnson, Christopherson

I’d say that’s enough to get a few more wins in the noncon and sweep K-State. If Staiger stayed too, I’d definitely put them in.

What's funny:

I’m not nervous at all. Mizzou has totally exceeded expectations already. They could go out and lose 100-0, and I’d still be damn proud of this squad.

Also, good morning.

I'll say that they've exceeded expectations, but I'm not sure I'd be too happy losing by 100.

Let’s at least get within 10 points or so, make it a game.

That's how I feel right now

but if we lose and the game is close enough, I won’t be able to help thinking of what could have been(especially with an 11 seed waiting in the next round).

Well they didn't deserve anything with their resume

but I see your point. Marquette and UNM might be the easiest 11 seed path to the second weekend though. The point is that there isn’t a monster out there waiting beyond this game against WVU. Washington is certainly beatable, just ask Texas Tech or Oregon, to name a couple we played.

Late to the party

I don’t really care about the end score. I am just hoping for smart basketball. I hope it is not a game of passive offense where they are clanking 3 pts attempts. I want them to be aggressive and attack. So even if they lose by a ton because WV just played out of their minds, I would not feel terrible.

Tigers Dismantle West Virginia

On a related note, in reading what I could find from WVU fans, they are awfully confident about today. Maybe it was just what I found, but it was downright dismissive of Mizzou having any chance today, much like the comments by some of the players yesterday. I like it.

I think Bill C. touched upon this in a live thread last night, West Virginia

is confusing our system with just a simple press, but it goes far beyond that where we pressure the ball everywhere and have very active hands. West Virginia struggled with a similar team in Cleveland State earlier this year, hopefully we can do the same.

they're also basing it on the fact

Huggins handled Mizzou and Mike Anderson’s “40 minutes of hell” while at KState. Except…Anderson was still working with Quin’s recruits. We all know that this style of play requires a particular type of player with a particular set of skills. Now that we have acquired players with that particular set of skills, I’m basically saying Bob Huggins abducted our teenage daughter and sold her into the sex slave trade, and we are Liam Neeson.

by mattyp on Mar 21, 2010 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

I also think that if God damn Marshall Brown didn't miss a wide open dunk

we’d have a better chance of winning that home game against them. Except I’m pretty sure we lost by 40 on the road that year, but that’s beside the point.

Is the “root for the underdog” aspect of these neutral court NCAA games. If we can manage to get on one of our little turnover-fueled runs… I think the crowd will certainly get behind us and help with a little Uncle ’Mo. (irrelevent) question for everybody

So if this is a dumb question, forgive me, I’m new.
Why is it that the university of missouri is abbreviated mu? (as opposed to um?)
I noticed a pattern here, too. Kansas, Nebraska, colorado, and Oklahoma, the other big 8 schools that are u of _, do it too. Kstate, isu, and osu obviously don’t apply and Texas (not a big 8 school) doesn’t do that.
I know this is meaningless haha just wondering if there was any significance to that.

by elpjuly4 on Mar 21, 2010 11:38 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

You know, I never figured that out either.

I guess it’s just easier to put the U at the end, but teams like Texas and Kentucky don’t do that. I’ve also heard unofficial people abbreviate Missouri as UMC for the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Question about Max Askren

A somewhat bitter Beaker made the claim to me yesterday that Askren wasn’t really considered a National Champion because it’s only the team championship that counts and not the individual weight classes. That seems odd to me, but I don’t know much about wrestling that doesn’t involve Ric Flair. What’s the official word?

We CAN do it!!

Looks like WVU is kind of a large fat Nebraska team with much better skills. We have had trouble with this type of team so that concerns me, but, if we play like yesterday and hit our shots a little better we should be able to win this one. Go Ramsey and Bowers! Those guys reminded me of JYD and Lyons yesterday!!

Anderson has a secret strategy.

Basically, we’ll start off with Sutton and get him as many open looks as possible. Then, once they start trying to defend him, we feed the ball inside to Underwood and Stone. As soon as they try to stop that, we kick it out to Sutton and he keeps shooting. We also have Steve Moore on the floor (RHYME) and he helps us out on defense.

This plan cannot fail. No, it physically is guaranteed to work or twice your money back. This is more revolutionary than the Topsy Turvy, which grows your plants UPSIDE DOWN!

Game on the Tiger Network

I just looked through my stations here in Missouri on the Dish Network and it isn’t on FSMidwest nor on WRBU which is where the Tiger Network is always carried. I don’t see any other possibilities unless CBS carries it here. Anybody know?

I must say

I think most people fell off the ‘Cuse bandwagon at the wrong time…and mostly because Kentucky and KU were looking pretty good. If anyone really proved something in the Big East this year, I think it’s Syracuse. They killed a fantastic non-con schedule and beat everybody in the Big East (except Louisville), including Georgetown twice AND West Virginia (on the road). They look like a really athletic, balanced team that is totally in sync with one another and is obviously well-coached.

True

Until I get back in my car and drive to Syracuse at 4pm. Although I’ll be going through PA at that point, so I should have a decent shot at getting WVU stations on my AM radio. Eff it. I may just wait until the Mizzou game is over to leave.
