THE LOVE SONG OF J. ALFRED JAYHAWK
Original found here. And no, I did not write this -- it was passed along to me.
Let us go then, you and I
When the cold snow blows across the sky
Like an All-American etherized upon a table
Let us go, down that alley of defeat
The muttering retreat
To restless nights of lost potential
Pressure building exponential
Destroying dreams once thought essential
Creating doubt more existential
To lead us to an overwhelming question…
Oh, do not ask, "Is there a reason?"
We know the ending to the season
In the arena they come and go
Stiff like the statues of Michelangelo
They come from north south east and west
The high school kids who are the best
McDonald’s picks, a crop of cream
An all-star blue-chip basketball team
And all year long the mood is manic
Till comes the test and starts the panic
In the arena they come and go
Stiff like the statues of Michelangelo
A biblical crime should be decreed
To waste again the number one seed
The mighty Jayhawks shown as shams
Exposed by Miners and also Rams
And now, this year, Two Thousand Ten
The Purple Panthers strike again
Another dance drowns in salt-water seas
Another chance dies of chronic disease
Top-ranked Kansas, once glory-bound,
Can’t make it past the second round

I can't wait until after Spring Break where I can talk to those KU fans at my school
that promised a national championship.

heh
It’s not so bad that they expect to win a national championship every year, but the “historic team” talk all year long really got on my nerves.
Awesome
Worth noting that Eliot is a Missouri native.
