Guide to Columbia: Best Bar for "Scenery" Nominations
I'm going to hope our readership has the capacity to read between the lines here. Every college town has this unspoken debate, but we're the ones ready to go on the record: Which bar usually has the best "scenery" in Columbia?
Voting will be open to the public tomorrow morning.

Does "College Avenue on the first warm day of the year" count?
Making fun of the "Mizzou Needs a Fullback" Club since...well, for a while, anyway.
Peace Park can get overrun by hippies, though...
Providence north of stadium on the first warm day is nothing to shake your head at either, though.
I live at 5th and Conley Ave
so some days, all I have to do is look out my front door.

Just to make sure it gets on the list even though "bar" is stretching it...
…G&D. The Pizza & Steak one. They serve beer, therefore I say they count.

Penguin bar
Not just the permanent scenery but the temporary scenery as well. Go and take home a fern tonight!
What do Tigers dream of when they take a little Tiger snooze? Do they dream of mauling Jayhawks, Or Todd Reesing in his sod helmet suit? Don’t you get in a self-loathing funk, We’re gonna start this party with a Lawrence Bowers dunk, And then we’re gonna find Kimmeh’s shot too, And bring a victory back to the Zou! Zou, Zou, oh back to the Zou! But if we keep shooting the three like we have been… Then we’re shit outta luck

Probably not the type of scenery aimed for in this category...
…but I do love me some Leo Bourgeois blufftops.

we are talking about girls right?
A bunch of girls in sun dresses is all the winery had when I was in college. Friday afternoon was heaven. I certainly wasn’t talking about looking at the river.
Nevermind then...
…thought you were actually talking about the bluff tops. :-)

no worries
it’s funny that it never occurred to me that Les Bourgeois had actual scenery that some people might find enjoyable.
On another note, I tried a bottle of riverboat red the other day, first time since college and found it undrinkable. Just awful.
I will say...
…it’s a pretty good cooking wine.

I completely agree with you about Riverboat red
they really aught to figure out why in the hell it attacks the pallet like a Meth’ed up Mongoose
However I would like to take this time to say Missouri wines really got me into wines even though I grew up in wine country Washington. They made it so much more accessible.
This could be because of the types of grapes that grow in MO, don’t find any uppity Pinot Noir around, and this is a good thing.

Riverboat red
definitely got me started on drinking wines, so I love it for that. But it’s almost like Natty Light or the Beast Ice, I am thankful that they got me into drinking beer, but I don’t want to go back to them.
Missouri's state grape is the Norton
And it makes a very drinkable wine, fairly easily. (So whatever it is they do to Riverboat Red to make UN-so… sigh. My guess would be the grape Kool-Aid they add to bottles. LOL)
Les B, however, does make a really nice Claret, which is admittedly better in the spring and fall because its so dry. But this is the snooty wine & spirits bartender in me, not the how ’bout a beer ’n a shot bartender from the pub!
Bet me!

lots and lots and lots of sugar
but there are some Nortons around that are great. Stone Hill, Augusta and Hermannhof make good ones.
by jschooltiger on May 26, 2010 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions
yes their Claret is pretty darn good
Yeah, the Norton grape is a solid grape, I have had Norton based (50% or more) wines that were far and away better than Riverboat Red.
I love Missouri wineries! I tell everyone I meet that is into wine the history of Missouri wines and that we all should thank Missouri for giving us Napa Valley, and also any French wine.
Graphed vines from Missouri saved French varietals from some sort of infestation a long time ago.
So by the transitive property of wine, everyone should be a Missouri Tiger. Just saying.

Big 12 Waitresses?
"As loud as the ovations are for big 3s or for thunderous dunks, some of the biggest roars you hear at Mizzou Arena these days are for steals, shot clock violations, and forcing opponents into timeouts in their own backcourt. Just as Anderson has crafted himself a team built on defensive intensity, he's built himself a fan base that echoes that same value system." - RPT
Maybe I get "shown" more "scenery"...
…being behind the bar… but I ahem enjoy what we have going on at the pub (McNallys). I am not, however, a sucker for that kind of thing (yes I am) and would never (yes I would) think of allowing some sort of discount for said scenery (I mean, unless that neckline really plunges… whoa whoa whoa.) And that’s final!
Bet me!

According to prior precedent...
While the comments are duly noted and preserved for future reading, Les Bourgeois won’t make the ballot on account of not actually being in Columbia.
These nomination threads are linked in the Guide...
… so anyone who navigates here can see the love for Les Bourg. It’s safe for posterity, it just won’t go on the ballot.
This is reasonable considering the Zoning rules of the Guide
I shall abide

I'm bucking the system
fight the establishment! I’m looking to change the precedent. I see things the way they are and I say no! . . . wait you see things as they are not and s – - wait, uh, you see things, do you see things as they are? What do you say when you see things?
it was a Seinfeld reference
George during The Limo episode. It was probably to obscure to reference out of context.
I've actually never seen Seinfeld, so it would have been lost on me regardless.
I was just trying to answer in the most unhelpful way possible.
