Rock M Roundtable: Community Edition

With all the excitement about the 2010 Missouri Football Preview this morning, I kinda sorta forgot to send out the roundtable questions. So it's time to ask the questions of the community! Give it your best shot.
1 - Everybody made some justifiable jokes about Mizzou being late to their Media Day yesterday. Setting aside the fact that you just KNOW Pinkel was all sorts of pissed off about being late ... what was the real reason Mizzou was late?
2 - Fall practices start again startlingly soon. What is your favorite part of following the practice reports? Checking for depth chart moves? Injury reports? Stories about tussles that occur? Other?
3 - What weapon was Dan Beebe brandishing backstage while Mack Brown said this earlier today at Big 12 Media Days: "We were told we need to stay away from the future of the Big 12 and opinions on the future of the Big 12."
4 - 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview! 2010 Missouri Football Preview!

Do you like this story?

1. Isn’t it obvious? Pinkel was on a conference call with Alden and Jim Delany.
2. It’s hard to get too excited about practice, but usually I’m looking for depth chart moves and the injury report. A feel good story or three doesn’t hurt things, either.
3. Dan Beebe was backstage with a Zippo, some lighter fluid and a Bevo-sized wad of cash that represented Texas’s share of Big 12 money.
4. Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....
1. Clearly, Beebe told Alden and Forsee that the lesser schools were to give 10% of their time to Texas as a suitable tribute.
2. Favorite part of fall practice? That every one is that much closer to a real game. I don’t care about practice at all, I just care about getting closer to game time.
3. To intimidate the head Longhorn? Gotta be a cattle prod, right? Though, a big wad of cash certainly isn’t a bad theory.
4. Got it, perused it, recommended it. Very satisfied. Looking forward to the paper copy so’s I can read it through more comfortably.
.
1. He was busy recruiting a fullback.
2. It’s one step closer to football season
3. Dan Beebe is about as intimidating as a wet noodle. Clearly Brown was referring to either Deloss Dodds or ESPN.
4. It’s on my list.
I'm thinking that Beebe's intimidation comes more from mind control
like, he knows things about you, that mole can look deep into your soul and find out your deepest fears.
I gotta question from looking over the depth chart
who can explain the whole X,H, Z thing for the wide receiver position? I never saw that before, oh, 1999 or so, and all of a sudden, it was just treated as if everyone should know what it means. Like it was as obvious as “left tackle”.
if you can tolerate Mike & Mike -
http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=3007647 (video link explaining XYZ receiver positions; not sure why Mizzou refers to the slot as the H-receiver instead of the Y-receiver).
i got nuthin
In brief
The “X” position is the wide receiver on the QB’s left when under center (the Split End)
The “Z” is the wide receiver on the QB’s right when under center (the flanker)
The “H” is the third wide receiver (think of them as the slot receiver; second tight end or fullback in some alignments)
The Tight End (if subbed for a 4th wide out) would be called the “Y”
The Running Back (if subbed for a 5th receiver) would be called the “F”
So, one possible alignment (poorly rendered in comments):
X H LT LG C RG RT TE (or Y) Z
QB RB (or F)
This is not canonical by any stretch of the imagination, but just what I’ve managed to glean from looking up some terminology.

1. There’s a joke about Gabbert and Washington leaving Rutland in the dust here, I just know it.
2. Getting irrationally excited about freshmen performances.
3. A taser. That Beebe was somehow pointing at himself.

I'm part of the community, right?
1. The Comoian says it best.
2. Mizzou is still undefeated.
3. No weapon. Just a firm grip on Mack’s little longhorn.
4. When does Buckeye Battle Cry arrive?
Because we couldn't go for three.

I thought that quote was from the old Guy in Home Alone. Then I realized it would have been.
“You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain, then you open up to the neighborhood brat which leads to a reconciliation with your own children and from those ashes become again a hero, albeit a humbled one.”

Good Times
1. In a cussing match with Turner Gil.
2. Not really into practices but holy crap, it means that football season is THATMUCHCLOSER!!
3. I wish I was clever.
4. I want to say a couple things about the mag:
a. Would reviewing on LuLu help sales?
b. Does anyone go to Tiger Lunches in KC or STL? I used to be on the mailing list for the one in KC but never went – but obviously those folks would be willing to shell out for a magazine.

I would imagine that most people who come across the magazine on Lulu
probably plan on buying it. Just my assumption (based primarily on the fact that I hadn’t ever heard of Lulu before yesterday.
a. It couldn't hurt (though Andy's probably right).
And … b. I like the way you think.

Here we go
1. Pinkel was outside making donuts with his Harley, whilst keeping eye contact with Dan Beebe…. not the good kind of eye contact. This was a sign of defiance.
2. Fall practices are good to read so one doesn’t find a lengthy injury report, I also like to hear about any new wrinkles to the offense or defense. Even if they never make it on the field. Twisted Scorpion anyone?
3. The question is Dan Beebe with a weapon right? ( I like Andys’ photoshop) I’m going with a pair of safety scissors, because I just can’t imagine anyone letting him near anything with potential to harm, hurt or maul.
4. buybuybuybuybuybuybuybuybuybuy….bought. waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait

Every 2010 Missouri Preview purchased
will help Bill’s poor impoverished parents get that retirement that they’ve always dreamed of. Oh, yeah, and let their poor little dog Torin get that operation that will help him walk again. On all four legs.
So please buy . . . .
Please . . . .
