- The Trib: He still has plenty to prove
By his teammates’ admission, Gabbert will begin his junior season barely resembling the sophomore who took over for Daniel in MU’s no-huddle spread offense last summer. More naturally reticent than Daniel — then again, who isn’t? — Gabbert has since found his voice during offseason practices, the voluntary workouts that players organize and oversee. This summer, Gabbert has been the ringleader.
"Blaine, he’s become more of a vocal leader," senior tailback Derrick Washington said. "He’s getting into people. He’s not letting little stuff go like he did last year. He’s telling people, ‘Catch the ball. Run your routes right.’ I like that about Blaine."
"People are listening to him," senior cornerback Kevin Rutland added. "I’m on defense and I’m a few years older than him, and I still find myself listening to him. I enjoy watching him command this team."
Gabbert has refined his game technically, too, Rutland said. He routinely recognizes the coverages Missouri’s defense is playing in practice, the valuable skill that Daniel began to master as a junior at MU.
"His presnap read has really improved," Rutland said. "I wasn’t in a position to watch him last year and know what’s going on, but he’ll show us this year he is fully confident and fully aware of everything that’s going on."

Oh my god...
…so today’s epic “SITTLER SEZ!!!!” is out, and … um… yeah.
Keep it classy, Nebraska
You might have heard that this is Nebraska’s last season in the Big 12 Conference. But just to make sure, the Cornhuskers’ media guide sends a strong hint that they are headed to the Big Ten Conference. The guide’s cover features a Nebraska jersey across most of the page. Guess what number is on that jersey? Go to the head of the class if you guessed “10.” Come on Cornhuskers; stay classy as you make the Big 12 rounds one final time.
I really, really hope this was just a bad joke and not complete ignorance of the fact that THIS IS THE 2010 SEASON.

Yeah, I definitely signed up for the site to comment on that alone.

OOOH.
Also from our favorite Tulsa World columnist:
Sittler: It’s not crazy to call OU’s Ryan Broyles a Heisman candidate
Pretty sure that’s exactly wrong.

From the office of Commissioner Dan Beebe

EVERYTHING IS FINE!
This line from Barfknecht's wrapup was new to me:
I don’t think I’d heard this before. From the OWH piece linked above:
4. Credit Missouri for a great game plan against Kansas State last year. According to K-State tailback Daniel Thomas, MU linebacker Sean Weatherspoon "called out our plays at the line of scrimmage before we ran them. We couldn’t do anything.’’
I know you have to give Spoon credit for it, but I hope Stec had the entire team locked in to the point that Ebner/Lambert/etc. will be in the position to do the same thing this year.
OT: Hey, Bill?
You want to comment on this? From Rangers blogger Jamey Newberg:
When Texas recently approached Pittsburgh about reliever Joel Hanrahan, the Pirates, "according to a scout with direct knowledge of teams’ dealings," responded by asking for Neftali Feliz in return (Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

I felt it was a lot more creative...
…than just saying “We’re not interested in trading Hanrahan at this time.”

Seriously.
Was it Neal Huntington just being kind of a d*ck? If so, that’s hilarious.
If he was serious, how many of the five syllables that makes up Feliz’s name did he get out before Jon Daniels hit “End” on his BlackBerry? Two? Did he get Nef-tah" out before he heard a dial tone?
"Don’t want to spend my night waiting in line unless it’s for more beer."

According to this, he got all five syllables out...but just barely.
(I absolutely love WHYGAVS, by the way…)

Wow, a case of reality matching fantasy
I was playing MLB 10: The Show as the Pirates, and traded Paul Maholm and a C-potential OF to the Rangers for Feliz.
Of course, in the game, the Rangers accepted the trade (heheh).
