Based on the rumors...
You should be surprised if he is playing in the Illinois game. Possibly out even longer.

Sorry to phrase it like that.
I have no idea. But Gabe said based on the rumors he heard…that it would be a surprise if he plays in the first few games.

Could this be a good coaching move?
I am not speculating about what dwash did to get suspended.
However, Pinkel may be using this to really motivate the team. It’s easy to overlook the fighting zookers right now and maybe Pinkel just didn’t like the attitude…
Or maybe Dwash did something really stupid and I, along with others, am just over-analyzing/hoping that its not a big deal
It could always be a "He talked back, and Pinkel's trying to get the team's attention" thing...
…but I doubt it.

I doubt Pinkel would take away a primary offensive weapon for a season opener against a quality opponent...
just to send a message. More than likely, D-Wash did something stupid. I don’t want to make any kind of assumptions, but it’s not like Pinkel has a history of making rash judgments regarding his players or lineup. I can’t think of a time he punished or suspended a player and it was viewed as “over the top”.
Follow me on twitter.com/SteveCusumano
My thought was
that this is a wake-up call and he would be reinstated shortly. I know it’s a pipedream, but that’s better than nothing right?
I know it’s a pipedream, but that’s better than nothing right?
Short-term: sure, better in the sense that the Tigers are a better team with Washington on the field than they are with him on the bench.
Long-term: Pinkel loses respect for bringing down a senior captain without a legit reason, then loses credibility when he fails to follow through with the punishment. Potential recruits aren’t going to want to play for a coach who will make an example of them purely as an attempt to reinforce his authority, either.
Best-case scenario, in my opinion, is if Washington misses games, it’s because he did something to deserve it, not because Pinkel is playing mind games….and based on Pinkel’s history in handling such matters, it’s likely he has a legit reason for suspending Washington.

Rec'd.
Pinkel’s history is that he deals with issues straight up. No overkill, no pushover. The kid has made a mistake and it has been dealt with. Now, on with the show.
Troubled that there has been NO good news
regarding either basketball or football in the past 6 months. all petty scandals, DUIs and academic qualifying issues — on the heels of the conference realignment stuff. This crap needs to stop. Why can;t the players be put in lock down throughout the season? Too much to lose and so much to gain if they concentrate soley on football and studies. One would think they’d sacrifice a few pitchers of beer for success
What good news was there going to be...

That's not my guess...
…just a possibility. As some have pointed out at PowerMizzou, Ebner got a DWI and was back at practice the next day. Washington’s apparently not at practice right now. It could be that he was “sent home” for whatever he did, but I’m not willing to wager that it was simply a “suspend him for one quarter” violation.

Hard to say… It clearly wasn’t trivial or they would have suspended him a practice or for 1 game or something… and it clearly was mind-wrenching, because they didn’t boot him off the team. So apparently it’s some weird kind of tweener… and maybe depending on how he behaves in the interim? Who knows.

Conversation starter: With Coach Bruce Walker getting a DWI without repercussions from the program, would Pinkel suspend Ebner?

Yes.
Coming in August: Rock M Nation's 2010 Missouri Football Preview!!!
Rock M Nation
I'm on Twitter! http://www.twitter.com/billconnelly1
While I will say 'yes' because it sets a terrible precedent if you let Ebner glide by...
I think GP would have announced something other than ‘we will wait and see on the depth chart’. Sure, Bruce Walker is over 21, but isn’t Ebner? What makes Ebner’s worse than Walker’s in the eyes of Gary Pinkel? Pinkel is basically the CEO of the football program to take a business twist to it, and reigns supreme over Ebner and Walker.
From the law’s standpoint, Ebner’s wasted I can barely stand up and can’t talk is equal to Bruce Walker’s drunk loading stuff into a car but the taxi is right there! DWI. Both are under the same punishment by law: loss of license and fines if I’m correct. Why does one deserve more punishment than the other?
It’s definitely a gray area. You can’t have players getting DUI’s without punishment, but you can’t have coaches doing the same either.
Former Mizzourah.net asshat. Have you had a glass of VICTORY WHISKEY today?
Ebner was actually driving.
I thought it was reported in the paper that he is 20 also.
They both might be the same charge under the law, but we as reasonable and rational human beings can actually see a difference between the two.
More doom?

I reject your reality and substitute my own." ~ Adam Savage, Mythbusters
Allow me to needlessly speculate:
I wonder if Washington slugged a teammate. That would seem to fit with A) the hush-hush nature, B) the lack of police blotter activity and C) Pinkel’s MO.
"Don’t want to spend my night waiting in line unless it’s for more beer."
--EssBee, on LoneStarBall, Jan. 21, 2010
that was one of my thoughts too
It isn’t likely academics, since classes just started…only way I can see it being that is if Washington was involved in some kind of conspiracy Animalhouse-level “steal the test answers” plot at this point in the semester.
I’ve wondered if it was something to do with getting caught with something he shouldn’t have – not necessarily illegal drugs, but more like illegal supplement, and this is Pinkle trying to get ahead of the story by handling it internally…but that seems like it could be serious enough to warrant a more definitive statement, and potentially a dismissal from the team.
Of course, if he did pick a fight with a teammate, there’s the question of a) which teammate, and b) why wasn’t said teammate also disciplined. There’s the line of “the one who reacts gets in trouble”, but I imagine Pinkel and co. would be able to get to the bottom of the whole situation and know who provoked Washington as well…unless we’re talking about some kind of bullying by Washington, an unprovoked attack on an underclassman. And if he did hit someone, while the police aren’t involved now, they certainly could be in the future for some kind of assault charge.
One other thought on that – it might not even be a teammate…what if he was trying to fight a coach?
Follow me on twitter.com/SteveCusumano
I thought that too.
Training camp is a bitch, and tempers get heated. I kind of hope it’s something this simple, but didn’t Tommy Saunders fight a couple people and never get suspended? I mean, Tommy was well known for scrappin’.
And if some wanted to pick a fight with a coach, don’t fight Steckel.
Former Mizzourah.net asshat. Have you had a glass of VICTORY WHISKEY today?
wouldn't the fight have been seen?
I guess it could have occurred off the field, but if that’s the case I doubt (or at least hope) the players wouldn’t rat on each other.
Locker room. Lunch room. Dorms...
So many places outside the public eye, but coaches know. Heck, my freshman year of HS, I got into a brawl with another kid in the locker room during two-a-days. Neither of us knew our DCoordinator was standing at the end of the room, and this thing was a pretty decent throwdown.
I’ve never ran more 100yd sprints in my life.
Former Mizzourah.net asshat. Have you had a glass of VICTORY WHISKEY today?
Hypothetical....
And if someone wanted to pick a fight with a coach, don’t fight Steckel.
This is why he’s been indefinitely suspended…Steckel looked at him cross ways after D-wash tried to do something and D-Wash was phase shifted to another dimension.
Here is why I think this;
Indefinitely – Poignant word to use, but correct as we don’t have the technology to create enough energy to warp space-time to retrieve a phase shifted particle. Don’t even think about retrieving a person.
suspended- a word used to specifically describe the dimension D-Wash was sent to. Obviously one where there is hardly any gravity, or a water level in Super Mario II, you know the first one with the raccoon tail. This would then explain the use of suspended as D-Wash would most definitely be suspended in that sort of medium.

In all seriousness, at this point I’d be surprised if it was something in a public place. Restaurant altercation means witnesses, and probably means police.
