Woo-ooo-oooo!

Yeah, a slow start, this team is not dominant, but that was a better Illinois team than we hit last year, our secondary (as someone pointed out in the GDT thread) actually WON us a game rather than costing us them (see: last year, regularly), and Gabbert is again proving to have a great arm, and maybe be just a little TOO mobile.

In short, another Missouri team – solid, but not about to have Stoops soiling his drawers.

.

I don’t know if this was a better Illinois team so much as a different Illinois team. Because of all of the shakes ups at Illinois (new coordinators, new qb, reworked defense), I think Mizzou just didn’t have a good fell for them in the first half. I think it also took some time to shake off the rust and the lingering feelings from the offseason. Once Mizzou got into their groove, Illinois looked pretty pedestrian on both sides of the ball.

exactly

the only film anyone has on the Illinois offense this year came from this game. Totally shut them down in the third quarter. Adjustments ftw.

Reaction.

Sluggish start, but I think credit goes to the coaches for whatever they said/did during halftime. They made the proper adjustments, and the team looked to be clicking on all cylinders throughout the second half. Also, Gabbert seemed much more accurate than I remembered.

Yeah, that was a little off.

Sometimes when you expect a shootout, you get the complete opposite. Although, as I stated before, that was a joke prediction. I thought it would be a shoot-out, but I exagerrated when I said Gabbert would have nearly 600 yards and both teams would get over 100 points total.

Obviously he is dominant in a different way, but just as Suh made himself impossible to ignore on EVERY PLAY, Smith is doing the same thing two years earlier in his career. He makes everyone else on the field look like they’re running in quicksand. He seems to have the potential to make Justin Smith and Weatherspoon look like lesser players.

i feel great

I thought that was a great win. Obviously we weren’t at our best, but I was really impressed.

The defense was absolute awesome. Lots of pressure all day, great halftime adjustments to contain Steeplechase or whatever. Aldon Smith and Gettis were all over the place. Great stuff on the defensive side.

I thought Blaine was superb at moving outside the pocket, keeping plays alive, and finding open WRs on those plays. It’s been so long since we’ve seen him at 100% with that ankle that I forgot how great he was at that.

I thought the running game was pretty solid. The OL was opening some huge gaps at times for the backs.

And to anyone out there who was wondering who’d step in for Danario? You should know now – TJ Moe.

This game should also shut those people up who say Pinkel doesn’t adjust during games. Great job by him and the staff today.

by ZOUTiger on Sep 4, 2010 7:20 PM CDT reply actions

While I'm not worried about replacing Danario..

Not sure TJ can do it. Guy is a great possession reciever, and I love to have him. But I don’t see him taking bubble screens and turning them into 70 yard td plays like Danario did on a regular basis.

My thoughts on today's game, and they are my opinions

1. Crowd was definitely in Mizzou’s favor. From what i heard form U of I fans was that they didnt want to waste their money watching a beat down. It was almost a beat down in their favor.

2. Offense needs to come out of the gate stronger! They looked horrible that first half. There was hardly a running game that first half. We should be able to work on consistency the next couple of games. Receivers will be fine and the running game will get better. Gabbert had some rust in the first half but he got some WD-40 at halftime

3. Defense was fine in my opinion. Because the offense sucked the defense was on the field longer than they should have been. Come second half our defense looked great. I think they may like those 3 and outs. Especially if the O can have longer drives. They wont be dead tired come I hope our defense can only get better, if so, this could be a funner season than we thought. Yes I said funner

1. Heard the same, the turn out was very poor from Ill-annoy fans.

2. Rusty offense happened early last year too – and a sluggish running game is expected after the loss of Derrick Washington

Other than "money"

why the hell would Oregon State, who should be pretty good this year, sign on to play a “neutral” game that is 2100 miles closer to their opponent’s campus than their own? Against a team that is top-10?

Win or lose, the computers see this as a neutral site game, despite the fact that it’s a road game.

by Andy--01 on Sep 4, 2010 7:57 PM CDT reply actions

because Oregon State (probably) isn't going to the national championship game

If they go to a BCS game, it’s because they win the Pac-10 (which is very realistic).

What do Tigers dream of when they take a little Tiger snooze? Do they dream of mauling Jayhawks, Or Todd Reesing in his sod helmet suit? Don’t you get in a self-loathing funk, We’re gonna start this party with a Lawrence Bowers dunk, And then we’re gonna find Kimmeh’s shot too, And bring a victory back to the Zou! Zou, Zou, oh back to the Zou! But if we keep shooting the three like we have been… Then we’re shit outta luck

What I noticed about that play

is that if Aldon Smith played for Illini, that play never could have happened. If i’m remembering right, a few d-lineman were pursuing him on that play, but weren’t fast enough to pressure him to throw it away.

Just like two different plays today where A. Smith beat schoolhouse to the sideline to take away a large gainer.
