Mizzou's Phil Pressey had a standing (no step) vertical leap of 37.5". The best leap at the NBA combine this year was 32.0" by Wes Johnson

Wowza!
The next two years of Missouri basketball are going to be freaking crazy!
Whoever said, 'It's not whether you win or lose that counts,' probably lost.

Laurence Bowers would like a word with the young 'un
and set a date for a pre-season dunk contest.
Any chance this is exaggerated? Kinda like a media guide listing a player taller than he actually is by a couple of inches?

Great Googly Moogly.
If he were 6 inches taller, he could take a dollar off of the top of the backboard and leave change.
"Anderson has already changed the program by changing the axis. A vertical game played at the rim is now a horizontal game played on the run. Anderson won't make substitutions. He'll change lines - Tiller, Taylor and English hit the bench while Denmon, Dixon and Paul hop the boards. Welcome to Hockey Night in Columbia. He won't take time outs. He'll take on fuel and tires. Welcome to the Hardwood 400." - Atch
To put into better context
Kadour Ziani height (5’10") plus vertical leap (60") = 10.833"
Spud Webb height (5’7") plus vertical leap (46") = 9.416’
Nate Robinson height (5’9") plus vertical leap (43.5") = 9.375’
Wes Johnson height (6’7") plus vertical leap (32.0") = 9.25"
Phil Pressey height (5’10") plus vertical leap (37.5") = 8.95’
Muggsy Bogues height (5’3") plus vertical leap (42") = 8.75’
Neither of this, or this, are the most reliable source, but then again, neither are these kind of measurements anyway.

Oh I understood it wasn't like a world record anything.
But for a kid who hasn’t even gone through a college strength training regimine, them be some ridiculis hops.
Annoying You Since 1986
I just posted
this to put the height/vertical numbers in to context. Its easy to be blown away by a larger number, but one must also keep in mind the player’s height and total vertical to make sense in comparison with the 7’3" centers with 9’8" wingspans (who still don’t deserve to be in the NBA – I’m looking at you Hasheem Thabeet!)

And with Ziani not being a verified number..
I find it hard to believe the guy jumps 5 feet in the air without any steps whatsoever.
Annoying You Since 1986
That is what is unconfirmed about all those numbers.
When we measured verticals in HS, you were allowed to put one foot back, bring them both together and go up. For Pressey, it sounds like you have two feet in one spot and have to go up as high as possible.
The extra move of one foot is not technically a step but it does make a big difference on these types of jumps. If you get a run at it and then jump off of two feet, it changes even more.

Not completely accurate
I believe the standing vertical leap is different than just a vertical leap. The vertical leap that is reported usually involves one step. Therefore, I am sure Pressey’s vertical leap is a few more inches than the 37.5. That standing vertical leap number is him standing flat-footed and jumping straight up.
Remember when all those detractors . . .
. . . were saying Pressey pushed off of Mitchell to dunk the ball in the clip that was distributed from the Dallas area All-Star game. This stat legitimizes that dunk, and it was awesome. Darn it . . . I’ve gotta take a heart pill, I’m starting to get excited and it is still five weeks until they start actual practice.
