ZouDave Says ... Hate Week: Commence!

This could be the final "Hate Week" for a while. Even if the Mizzou-Kansas series does continue in the future, it might not take place next year, at least not in football -- Kansas already has three non-conference opponents lined up, and they probably won't be in a hurry to buy them out -- so as we prepare for one of the biggest must-wins in a series full of them, ZouDave takes us on a look back to recent Border War triumphs. Enjoy.

Only time I can ever say I'm not a fan of the music...
But I have a such a strange feeling about the game this year. I definitely feel the hate as strong as ever, but I kind of just want to get this game over with. I’m tired of listening to “Realignment blahblahblah oldest rivalry blahblahblah shame that it can’t continue blahblahblah”…
well
when you think about realignment, you have to think about the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi and the shame that it will not continue. You see, Missouri has realigned with conferences. It went from the Big 12 to the SEC. This has caused many to speculate that the rivalry games will not be played with kU. Which is the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi. And that really is a shame. I believe Mike Anderson said it best when he said “I used to play basketball with Paul Pressey.” You may not know this but . . .

well believe me nobody hates that song more than me right now.
I did this video for the Pep Rally at KC P&L this coming Friday night. They said they needed it to be about 2-3 minutes…the best I could give them was 3:30. The song itself is actually only a little over 2:00…I had to keep looping it to make it fit. I tried finding another song, but I wanted something that had (basically) no lyrics since the audience on Friday will be incredibly diverse in age, etc. Once I started with this one, I decided to quit second-guessing.
Making a video of 3 games together instead of one is honestly about 20x harder than just making highlights of a game. I could have done the 2010 kansas game from start to finish in about 6-8 hours and that would be about 7 minutes long. This? I started working on it on Thursday and finished it yesterday afternoon. There’s so much on the cutting room floor right now it’s sick.
And I’ve heard this song, one of my favorite Blue Man Group songs, about 70 times in the last 5 days. So now I watch this video back and I hate it.
Hopefully I’ll like it more by this weekend.
the needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the one.

Great video Dave.
It’s amazing the moves Danario had first step after the catch.
In a few of those clips, you’d think Gabbert was a running QB. He’s like Tim Teebow but more in a Mike Vick way.

Damn if JMac would've just cut inside on that punt return in 07
To this day I have no idea at all why he didn’t.
I was in that endzone seats and thought the same thing...he thought he could outrun the punter I'm sure
Punter had way too good of an angle though

Reminds me of how awesome ’Nario was. That man was a jayhawk killer.

Orwelled:
“The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but, on the contrary, that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy … seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one’s will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic.”

I hate that book with a passion.
But it did make me aware of the various ways humans have always conditioned others.

I actually really like that book
But I really like Orwell in general. I think that book and Animal Farm both belong on some sort of “required reading for functioning adults.” At least you can say you’ve read it, being able to keep reading a book you hate is a good skill to have. The only author I really, truly loathe is Faulkner, and the only way I made it through As I Lay Dying was because I had to read it for a class.
by Damnatio Memoriae on Nov 21, 2011 12:52 PM CST up reply actions
Absolutely agree on the required reading part.
Like I said, I learned something pretty important from it. It was just ridiculously heavy-handed, and boring. And of course, it’s worlds better than Steinbeck.
I can see that
1984 is just kind of a longer Animal Farm. Sort of like you can get everything out of Anthem that you can get out of Atlas Shrugged, but in a fraction of the time.

Don't they still have a contract to play us at arrowhead next year?
How exactly are the planning to get out of that contract? Really don’t think they can afford to buy there way out, especially with all of the money they have to spend to get Gill to NOT be there coach.
So they have to buy it out even if it's a conference game that is no longer a conference game?
I was wondering how that would work. They would just have to pay Arrowhead right?

The KU people basically said that they don't care about the financials as long as they can stick it to Mizzou
Fight the power Beaker.
GO GO FIGHTING METH AGGIES!
Yeah, it's hilarious
Kansas: “We’re going to give a million dollar payout! Take that Mizzou!”
Missouri: “Um, ok.”
GO GO FIGHTING METH AGGIES!
It definitely won't be $1million
In fact, even Mark Donovan has ackowledged that it’s minimal. Whatever it is, I’m sure KU can more than make up for it with the revenue of an added home game.*
*Note: That assumptions is based on Turner Gill getting fired and us having football fans again next year.

What I find funny
is that Kansas is up in arms because Mizzou forsake a “100 year rivalry for money!” and yet this is basically what it boils down to for the reasoning to not play Mizzou in basketball.
The reasoning for not playing Mizzou in football is muddled with emotion that shouldn’t be part of any desition making.
Sad, but oh well.

there were a lot of things driving conference realignment based on emotions.
On that, our friends of the U.A. were somewhat correct.

I think hate week is one sided this time...
Between you all fleeing for the SEC and Turner Gill turning our entire fanbase apathetic, there just isn’t any emotion on the Kansas side of things this time. I will post this beautiful picture though, so that we all may remember a better time…
Fair enough..."leaving"
However you want to phrase it, the latter part of my comment is the bigger culprit here…but add to that most people I know (KU and MU) being upset with the SEC move and this game has already lost a lot of luster.
by hiphopopotamus on Nov 21, 2011 4:08 PM CST up reply actions
I have a feeling you don't know a lot of Mizzou fans, then.
I’m a KC native, and I’d say it’s 80/20 among the people I know in favor of the move. Elsewhere in the state, that’s even higher.
True, my sample size is hardly worthy of issuing a definitive statement...
but I’m just passing on what I know. I’d say I’ve spoken to 30ish Missouri people on this issue. Oddly enough, they’re from only two contingents…the old big donor (60+), of which the feelings range from upset to downright angry and young (20-30s), who are pretty much indifferent. I have yet to speak with anyone that is actually in favor though. Like I said, I’m speaking from a small sample size, but that’s just been my experience.
In reality though, the MUCH bigger reason KU fans are so apathetic even about this game is because of what Turner Gill has done to the progress the program was making.

true, fleeing would be leaving for an easier conference.

The phrase our KU 'friend' was looking for was...
…‘upgrading to the SEC,’ not ‘fleeing for the SEC.’
To SEC, or not to SEC, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous Texas,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?

An upgrade...
would entail that you’ll actually be competitive….you won’t. You’ll just be at the bottom of a different conference. Oh well, you can think back to all of those football and basketball championships you won in the Big 12…oh wait…..
ya say you have a throbbing pain in your backside?
the kids now are calling that “butthurt”, i think.
