The Trib (Dave Matter): Emptying the Notebook: Capos come through
PowerMizzou: PMTV-HD: Stec talks winAnd in winning, a flood of emotions spilled onto Faurot Field in the aftermath. There have been no shortage of emotional games in the Pinkel era — these guys sure can turn on the waterworks — but other than the 2007 win over Kansas, I can't recall such an outpouring of raw feeling from players and coaches. Steckel kept it together, but he had a long embrace from Athletic Director Mike Alden on the way to the locker room after the win. Yost choked up several times in postgame interviews. Players described the last few days as draining and stressful. A win didn't forgive Pinkel's mistake, didn't heal Henry Josey's knee, didn't erase the Tigers' five losses. But when Michael Sam snatched Seth Doege's tipped pass to clinch the comeback, you could sense the weight of the world slide off everyone's shoulders. This game won't be remembered for much in the annals of Missouri football history, but it might have been the most cathartic victory the program has ever experienced.
"It was rough, but we knew we had to win this game," Sam said, "not just for the seniors, not just for each other, but for this program. … Everyone's human, and we all make mistakes. Nobody's perfect. I know we're going to get through this together, and we're going to stick together as a team."

As I mentioned on Twitter yesterday, it is a damn shame that ABC/ESPN cannot loan Joe Tessitore to CBS so that he can do the big SEC games down the stretch as well, just to keep the chaos going for a little while longer. That he did both the OU and OSU games this weekend is simply amazing. And while I'm still 100% in favor of the SEC move, I do have to mention just how damn fun the Big 12 has been this year. Obviously I'd have preferred it if Mizzou were still involved in the conference title race -- something that would have required them to close the deal against both Kansas State and Baylor -- but there have been more fun games in this conference this year than in the ACC, SEC and Big East combined, I'm pretty sure.

Damn it Baylor! you stopped us from beating all four Texas teams on our way out with mostly our own Texas players…
What the Hell is an “exigent circumstance” and why the hell did his lawyer not immediately do something about it… Isn’t that what they get paid to do… At least call a judge and get it postponed and pushed back to let his bac go down some by filing whatever lawyers file??
I think the exigent circumstance is that his body is destroying the evidence
stalling to let the BAC go down is probably something the police/sheriff’s dept. has thought through
by jschooltiger on Nov 21, 2011 8:09 AM CST up reply actions
that would be the exigent circumstance that the deputy was referring to
without getting into too much detail, there was a law that was slightly changed which left the question of whether warrantless blood searches for DWI’s were no allowed. The matter is up before the Supreme Court right now, I don’t think they have come down with a decision.
The defense attorney couldn’t really do anything to prevent it from happening, but could have prevented the evidence from being presented at trial or a hearing.

What a whiny tale of conference realignment woe. Things change, and if Kansas wants to sit back and nurse it’s aching vajayjayhawk instead of simply continuing to play Mizzou, then so be it. At the end of the day, we hate their arrogant asses, and let’s take a page from one of our new conference partners (Bama w.r.t. Georgia Tech) and move on without one of our rivals.

I'm still on the fence just a little here...
sad we are leaving the old big 8 behind but I understand and agree with the reasons for leaving. I also agree that the only constant is change. I’ll just miss kicking their ass in football and every now and then in basketball. It’s always nice to rub it in “their arrogant asses”.
What really put me over the edge
Was the loss of Nebraska and Colorado (1/4 of the Big 8) and the way OU and OSU (another 1/4) made it abundantly clear they would be casting their lot with the Texas teams, effectively just leaving the “Forgotten 4.” At that point, the Big 8 was dead. No use clinging to the memory of something that no longer exists.

About Matter's article...
Seeing Franklin’s numbers make me very optimistic, especially considering he still has a number of things he can improve on, and it seems like the coaches took a little while to figure out exactly how to use him. If, by next season, they can teach him to keep his eyes downfield and the ball up as he steps up in the pocket, and can fully utilize him as an inside running threat a la Tebow or Newton, I think he will be a weapon of mass destruction.
It also speaks to the strength of offensive coaching staff that they were able to coax the best out of Brad, Chase and Blaine, who were all great quarterbacks in totally different ways, and they appear to be off to a good start with Franklin, who is totally different again from those three. If (hopefully a few years from now) he makes it to the NFL, that would be quite a testament to the ability of our staff to bend an overarching offensive philosophy to use whatever tools are available to them.

Question about the Pinkel sentence
I know this is supposed to be hate week or whatever, but our football team is such a mess that I can’t really get into it. So I’ll ignore all the mock-clever redefinitions for Jayhawk if I can get an answer to this question: does Pinkel get his license suspended for any period of time? (I was under the impression that this was fairly standard in DUI cases, but I don’t know the law). And if so, how does that affect recruiting? Would he always be with another coach that could drive (or, more importantly, fill out the forms to get the rental car) or would he have to take a driver with him on those recruiting trips?
And if he has to take a driver, has RMN considered doing a fundraiser where you auction off the job of flying around the country with Pinkel being his driver on recruiting trips?
The reports are not clear
He has a 30 day suspended sentence and 2 years probation. No reference to his driving privileges.
Actually
Kpz1234 has already called dibs on being Pinkel’s driver, and I’m pretty sure calling dibs in an RMN comments thread constitutes a legally enforceable contract.

his license will be suspended.
In MO, a license is suspended for 30 days (then 60 days restricted) for having a certain BAC.
It is suspended on year if there is a refusal.
The refusal allows you to get a hardship license after 30 days. A hardship license lets you drive for work (among other things). I’m not sure if recruiting trips would classify as work or not.
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
Yeah, I guess this is what I was thinking of
I’d heard refusing the test means an automatic 1 year suspension. I didn’t know if pleading guilty somehow undid that.
Can you rent a car with a hardship license (do they look the same)?
Technically if it was for work, you could rent a car
but I would imagine that the Rental Car Company would have a policy against that. So legally yes, practically no.
The suspension stuff is administrative law, not criminal. So the cases are different. Refusal doesn’t mean an automatic suspension for a year. You can challenge it. You would be surprised at how often law enforcement messed up and the hearing doesn’t work. Also, a lot of counties in Missouri will not suspend the license for a year IF you plead guilty to the DWI and it’s a 1st time offense.
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
Interesting.

He was asking why, since this was Columbia and Pinkel’s just a big deal there, did the cop not just drive Pinkel home and keep quiet.
