Week Thirteen BlogPoll: Chaos
I wasn't joking about wanting to watch the world burn.
And it has become chaotic thanks to the recent spate of upsets. Now we get to play the fun game of who is number two.
Attention this week on our soon to be new conference: Friday's game at Baton Rouge between Arkansas and LSU and Saturday between Auburn and Alabama.

Hey Bill, if you're reading this:
Do you have your Adj. Score Trends for LSU and Alabama, or do you have to run those specially for the BTBS previews/reviews?
I keep hearing from ESPN how no one wants to see another 9-6 defensive showdown for the national championship, and lamenting that we won’t get to see an SEC defence tested by a better offence, nevermind what happened in the last 3 national championships. I’m curious if LSU and Alabama’s offences are really as anaemic as ESPN makes them out to be, or if they’ve just been blunted by great defences.
If you don’t have those numbers just laying around, nevermind… but if you do, could up put them up somewhere?

On Mike and Mike this morning
the BCS guru for the WWL said that even if Arkansas beat LSU, he wasn’t sure that LSU would fall behind Arkansas in the BCS standings. That’s pretty crazy.

No kidding
Dr. Saturday had a pretty solid breakdown of the possible outcomes.
And I can say with zero sarcasm that I am positively giddy with excitement to be joining this conference. I can’t wait to see how we stack up against programs like this.

Fun times
I don’t get all the whining about a National championship game being intra-conference or even intra-division.
If they are the two best teams, they are the best teams. Period.
yep.
playoff advocates, the lot of ’em.

I saw in the comments of the Dr. Saturday an interesting quetsion
does the 2 team max apply to the national championship game? So If Georgia beats LSU in the title game, can only one other team from the SEC go to a BCS game?
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
It is my understanding...
…that the only way the SEC gets three teams is if the SEC champ ISN’T one of the two SEC teams in the national title game. So Georgia beats LSU, and Bama-LSU are still1-2.

gotcha.
I just didn’t know how the 1 always plays 2 rule and the only 2 teams from a conference would co-exist. A guy from the WWL who is supposedly an expert said that basically the only way it wasn’t LSU v. Bama in the title game was if Bama lost to LSU or if lost to Arky and Georgia. He said that a loss to Arky would only drop LSU to 2nd and Arky would remain in 3rd.
If I were an Arky fan and this scenario played out, it would be hard to describe my anger.

it would be comparable to mizzou anger circa 2007, yes?

I think it would be worse
In that scenario, Arkansas would have a legitimate grip about not being in the national championship game and instead they go to the Cotton Bowl. For Mizzou, our beef was just not going to a BCS game.

you both missed it
for shame. The purpose was to explain that the pie was not purchased. In fact, nobody wanted the pie. Because there were delicious cakes to be purchased.
Also, I ate the pie because I was depressed. Which means pie is nothing more than a depression food.
FTW.

just clearly a lie on your part.
if somebody didn’t buy your ice cream pie, it had to be because of your reputation as a subpar cook, as it were. or you put a rodent on top of it.

I'm not going to look this up to justify my point
but I think it’s correct that, overall, LSU has better wins than Arkansas. Whereas compared to Missouri, KU didn’t. And they lost the head to head.
so if kU had better wins, Mizzou fans wouldn't have been reasonably upset about the outcome?
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
well, I mean apples to oranges kind of
The only way that situations would be comparable would be if KU had beaten OU as well as a number of other strong teams that year, which, of course, they didn’t. Since Arkansas lost to Alabama, I can’t get too worked up over them getting passed over for LSU.
I'm not getting worked up nor was I comparing our old situation to theirs
But, I see the inherent injustice in having the same record as a team, beating them in the head to head matchup and being left out in the cold. I think the more comprable scenario is the OU/Tech?Texas situation from a few years ago (2?) 3 teams from the same division of a conference with the same record and each having beaten 1 and lost to the other. The way Tech was dismissively tossed to the side was unfortunate.
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
I agree in a general sense
I guess what I’m saying is, it’s almost certainly true that MU was better than KU in 2007. We should have gone to a better bowl than them. LSU has almost certainly been better than Arkansas (taking “entire body of work” into account), so they should go to a better bowl (even if they lose head to head).
I wish the system was different, at the very least that better teams go to better bowls (which isn’t the case). More generally, I wish there was a playoff.
I think we just agree then
the system is flawed and every year a flaw is brought to the forefront. Of course if, LSU just beats Arkansas, the flaw will remain somewhat hidden.
