That Was a Tough Loss...
For A&M. If they complained that a bad personal foul call on the final drive gave Texas the game, I wouldn’t disagree.

Bowl Games, SEC style
Trying to do the math here with the BcS rankings and SEC’s bowl assignments before I go to bed this morning….
1) We’d still be bowl-eligible if we were in the SEC East this year (let’s face it: the East was down and we would’ve/should’ve easily handled UF, UK, UT, Vandy, and would’ve had a tough fight with UGA & USCar; we already beat aTm and who knows who the other West team we would’ve had).
2) By the current BcS rankings, Mizzou is 6th in the SEC (and 6th in the Big Xii) being 25th overall.
Assuming LSU doesn’t screw up Saturday at the GA Dome and the BcS championship game ends up being LSU/Bama the next in line is Arkansas. Since the Sugar can’t take another SEC team (we’re all familiar with why not), Arky probably goes to the Capital One.
UGA & USCar are next, along with us: and the next three bowls on tap are Outback, Cotton, and Peach. Let’s say we lose to UGA and beat USCar (keeping Spurrier winless against Mizzou all-time). Dawgs go out for steaks and guess where we are: Cotton Bowl vs. OU (or oSu, whoever loses Bedlam).
Cocks & Peaches sounds like something out of American Pie, but that’s still a decent bowl against the #2 ACC team (loser of Va Tech/Clemson game). And THAT could still happen in reality: USCar & Clemson, part 2.
This will be an interesting read next summer from Bill when he does his “what if….” series on “what if Mizzou joined the SEC as the 13th team…in the summer of 2010?” :)
So, in reality, where do we end up?
Let’s face it: the Xii ain’t lookin’ out for its castaways. They didn’t last year for the Bugeaters, they ain’t doin’ it for us this year. Maybe the Pinstripe, maybe the Compass.
Auburn is currently ranked 26 in BCS and 6th in the SEC (same position in your hypothetical)
And we are currently looking at the Chik-Fil-A bowl in ATL. Amusingly this is guessed to be against Clemson , who already owned us earlier in the year. Okay, maybe not so amusing… It’s going to be against an ACC team no matter what though.
Still, it’s a New Years Eve bowl game for a 7-5 team. Not too shabby.

Auburn to Cotton?
The Cotton Bowl’s preference is to take someone from the West that’s not going to a “higher-up” game, so it wouldn’t surprise me if that set of Tigers goes to the Cotton in reality or the hypothetical.
Next on the list is the Gator Bowl, which I believe we de-clawed a certain Bear from Tuscaloosa in once-upon-a-time.
Still not a bad bowl game for a 7-5 team.

X
I thought there was a BCS loophole where if two teams from the same conference made the title game, that a third team from the same conference would then be eligible for one of the other BCS bowls.
by MUPete on Nov 28, 2011 8:33 AM CST via mobile reply actions
Only if that third team wins the SEC.

As long as LSU still makes the title game, yeah.

According to "experts", a loss to Georgia won't change that. Although I wondered if a Ok State beatdown of OU would.
Voters have shown in the past...
…that they are perfectly willing to cheat the system and manipulate their votes to a degree to try to get the matchup they want. It happened in both 2001 with Colorado/Nebraska and 2008 with Oklahoma/Texas. OSU really would have to win by 40, though, to get that manipulation…

Nobody has cracked 60 against Haith's Tigers yet
I loved Mike Anderson—still do—but Haith’s defense so far has been everything Anderson’s defense purported itself to be. While those Mike Anderson teams were lighting up the scoreboard, so were their opponents. This year, the Tigers are getting their 80-90 points a game, but the opponents haven’t been able to crack 60 points once.
That disparity is even more impressive than any other defensive metric you can come up with.
Mercer and SEMO both cracked 60
63 and 68, respectively.
But the point still stands that the defense has been very good this year.
Busting Bill C since September 19, 2011 10:19 CST, 8:19 PDT.
Also,
Phil Pressey: eleven assists, zero field goal attempts. Flip could average 15-17 ppg if he wanted to. Instead, he’s dedicated himself to running the offense. I don’t like it, I love it.
Moe quotes from the L J-W article
"We fly the flag of Quantrill in our locker room right now," Moe said. "It’s up. It’s my flag. I brought it."
"You’ve got rivalries who kind of developed over good football games. We’re talking about … we went over there and killed all their people and burnt their city down. OK?" Moe said. "So that’s what makes it. They hate us. We hate them, too."
"Well, dude, if they don’t want to play any more, they don’t want to play any more," Moe said. "Take your toys and go home. Whatever."
"They don’t want to play. And really, fine," Moe said. "I was trying to score enough points to hold us over for the next 50 years."
I thought he was banned from talking about kU this year? haha

That will only last until Mizzou plays real competition
Then they will fall back into the cellar where they belong.
