The Trib (Dave Matter): Friday Four and Out
Gary Pinkel told the crowd that sometime last week, a package arrived at the team facility addressed to D-line coach Craig Kuligowski. Inside was a stash of Pittsburgh Steelers Terrible Towels, each addressed to a different coach, trainer or staff member and signed by Steelers defensive lineman and former Tiger Ziggy Hood. "The coaches were going through that box like kids in a candy store," Pinkel said. Nice gesture by the big fella. … Pinkel was asked about the incident at Iowa, where 13 players were hospitalized after suffering muscle disorders after an offseason workout. He was aware of the situation but said it hasn’t changed the way Missouri handles its morning mat drills, which started last week. ... Speaking of mat drills, a couple coaches apologized for being hoarse. "I’ve been breaking some freshmen of some bad habits," Kuligowksi quipped. … Don't know what mat drills are? Here's a taste, courtesy WeAreMizzou.com. ... O-line coach Bruce Walker became quite familiar with the route to Fargo, N.D., where he visited three times to recruit lineman Connor McGovern. "You go west on I-70 and turn right on 29," he shared with the audience. "And that takes you right to Fargo." … The only person happier than safeties coach Barry Odom when defensive back Cortland Browning stuck with his commitment to MU was Tritia Odom. "My wife was elated that she gets to move back to the top of my priority list over Cortland," he joked. … I never get geeked up over recruits until they put on a college uniform and do something worth watching, but I’m intrigued by Browning and linebacker Kentrell Brothers, two potential impact defensive players the MU staff identified a long time ago as prime targets.
