WhatIfSports.com Says...(part 4)

Part 1:  Here

Part 2:  Here

Part 3:  Here

The tournament's 2nd week is upon us and we're down to the Sweet 16.  The biggest surprises are 12-seed Memphis who has run through Arizona and Oakland, and 11-seed Missouri who has upset Cincinnati and UConn.  Do these Tigers still have fight in them to keep it going?

The 3 KC-area Big XII teams are still alive and kicking.  Is one of them about to make a run?

1 Ohio State 72 - Jared Sullinger 20 points and 14 rebounds, Jon Dielber 13 points

5 West Virginia 56 - Casey Mitchell 13 points

3 Syracuse 72 - Brandon Triche 18 points, Kris Joseph 15 points, Rick Jackson 15 rebounds

2 North Carolina 69 - John Henson 14 points and 13 rebounds, Harrison Barnes 12 points

1 kansas 75 - Morris Twins held to just 17 points and 15 rebounds, Tyshawn Taylor 13 points

4 Louisville 76 - Peyton Siva 14 points, Kyle Kuric and Terrence Jennings each with 13 points

This is probably the game of the tournament so far.  Louisville trailed by 8 at the half but led for much of the 2nd half.  kansas tied the game at 73 with just 46 seconds to play and then took a 2-point lead with 2 seconds to play before Mike Marra connects on a buzzer-beater 3 to win the game by 1.  Check out the full Play-by-Play here.

6 Georgetown 62 - Austin Freeman 25 points on 5-8 from three, Hollis Thompson 10 points and 9 boards

2 Notre Dame 67 - Ben Hansbrough 17 points, Tim Abromaitis 13 points

1 Duke 78 - Nolan Smith 21 points, Kyle Singler 16 points, Mason Plumlee 10 points and 10 boards

12 Memphis 71 - Will Coleman 10 points off the bench, Charles Carmouche 11 points, Joe Jackson 10 points

1 Pittsburgh 74 - Brad Wanamaker 13 points, Nasir Robinson 12 points

5 Kansas State 56 - Jacob Pullen 12 points, KSU shoots 36% from the floor and 52% from the line

3 Brigham Young 74 - Jimmer Fredette 25 points on 5-9 from three, Jackson Emery 14 points

2 Florida 50 - Alex Tyus 14 points, Vernon Macklin 13 points, only 6 bench points from Florida seals their fate

11 Missouri 85

2 San Diego State 90

No Moe Miracle in this one, but a more than valiant effort.

So Missouri has a great run but can't quite finish it off.  Hitting four 3-pointers in the final minute like that, you have to think the SDSU fans were dreading seeing another "Moe Miracle" before their very eyes.

And just like that, all of the Big 12 teams are gone.  The Elite 8 is set, the first 1-seed is out (thank God), let's see who moves on to the Final Four!

1 Ohio State 83 - David Light and William Buford both go for 19 points, Jared Sullinger with 17 points and 10 boards

3 Syracuse 79 - 5 players in double-figures, led by Scoop Jardine with 16 points, Rick Jacskon had 12 points and 10 boards

4 Louisville 85 - Preston Knowles with 24 points powered by 6-12 from 3-point range, Kyle Kuric and Terrence Jennings each with 11

2 Notre Dame 79 - All 5 starters in double figures led by Ben Hansbrough's 18 points

1 Duke 73 - Kyle Singer with 24 points, Nolan Smith with 20

2 San Diego State 71 - Malcolm Thomas with 18 points and 14 boards, Chase Tapley with 12 points

1 Pittsburgh 63 - Ashton Gibbs 13 points, Nasir Robinson 10 points

3 Brigham Young 82 - Jimmer Fredette 23 points, Jackson Emery and Noah Hartsock with 12 points each

BYU makes it to the Final Four despite suspending their best PF at the beginning of March.

The Final Four pits 1-seeds Ohio State and Duke against each other on one side, with red hot 4-seed Louisville and media daring 3-seed BYU on the other.  Does Fredette have what it takes to finish this dream run?  Find out this evening as the Final Four and Championship Game are revealed!
