NCAA Wrestling Championships - Day 1 Thread
With so much going on, the culmination of the 2010-2011 NCAA Wrestling season has arrived, to be completely overshadowed by other season-ending tournaments. The Mizzou Tigers are sending a team-record NINE grapplers to the City of Brotherly Love (with only Nick Gregoris at 157 not making the trip). Strangely, with the deepest group of wrestlers from a numbers standpoint, not much is thought of the Tigers' chances of finishing highly in the team competitiion, which is likely to be a great battle between Iowa, Cornell and Penn State. Nevertheless, the Tigers have some exciting people in the mix who are capable of some great finishes, and I will do my best (and invite others) to keep our community up to date on their progress.

No score...we now go to Top/Bottom 1
:30 periods…each wrestler starting on bottom.
Morrison does have :42 seconds of riding time, which I think could come into play at the VERY end if there is no winner

Morrison starts on bottom
and it does not appear he escaped.
If Henderson can escape, he wins

HENDERSON ESCAPES
It is 2-1, but it is not sudden victory here, so he will need to hold him off

Is there a video feed of this, or are you watching
a text play by play? When I was following the Big 12 championships, the only option was a java-based text feed, which was ridiculously slow, and bogged my computer down, etc. – when it worked.
Rational Mizzou Talk, whether you like us or not.
Nevermind. I actually read the post
rather than just the comments.

They sometimes struggle with the text-based during the year
But I find it is typically really good for the NCAA’s

@MIZLive just tweeted
WR: #Mizzou’s Alan Waters loses opening round match against Pitt’s Anthony Zanetta, 7-2.
Rational Mizzou Talk, whether you like us or not.
was somewhat fearful of that
Zanetta was a tough draw for him to start, since he barely beat him back at the Midlands, but I am very fearful of how the grind of the season may be wearing him down a bit.

Only he and Schavrien move on to the round of 16. Everyone else takes a loss down to wrestlebacks. They will need to win (I believe) 4 matches in row before they can lose again and not be eliminated.

That is it for now I believe
The first two rounds of consolation will sandwich the round of 16 this evening, starting at 5:30 central I believe.

Will only be one match for each wrestler tonight
Tomorrow is a killer day if you are fighting out of the wrestlebacks, as you might have four matches. But each of the nine will only fight once tonight. Schavrien appears likely to be first, as the 2nd round is underway and the 1st round of consolation bouts appear to follow.

Schavrien chooses neutral to start the 3rd, which is interesting
Advocating for the "Spreadbone" since 2010

Todd is a great defensive wrestler
so he must be thinking is more likely to either score his own TD or fend off the effort of Schavrien rather than risk being ridden out. These two have met before, and am thinking a few times.
still 2-1 in the third, no word on riding time

Schavrien almost with a TD, but Naumann gets out
and Schavrien now called for stalling.

Bugenhagen is a SR, 29-11 on the season
Bradley is a JR, 26-3

question...
do teams get points for winning matches (like duals) or based on what place a wrestler finishes (like track i guess)?
m-i-z... z-o-u!
wins...
the more wins, the more team points. Major decisions, Tech falls and pins count extra as well. So right now, just grinding out some wins is helping our team total
