OT - From ESPN - Nebraska - Omaha moving to D1
Obviously, this doesn't directly affect Mizzou, but UNO will be leaving the MIAA and joining the Summit League.
"The University of Nebraska Board of Regents voted unanimously Friday to approve the school's move to the Summit League this fall. As part of the move, the school will eliminate its 100-year-old football program and a powerhouse wrestling program that has won six of the last eight Division II national championships."

The UNO Coach had been there for 32 years
and was told hours after winning this year’s D2 National Title that the program was likely to be cut. The reason is that they wouldn’t be able to fund the sport at the level it takes to be competitive in D1 (the Summit league doesn’t have wrestling, I’d guess going independent in wrestling would be even more expensive).
Rational Mizzou Talk, whether you like us or not.
That is really too bad for that program
I’d have loved to see maybe them getting picked up by the Big XII, as typically the wrestling conferences (except the Big 10) are hybrids (check out the Pac 10 in wrestling)

I'm guessing the move to remove their powerhouse program...
Is strictly financially-based? That football and basketball are such power sports, they need to clear up as much budget space to fund them to be competitive?
"I like to think of myself as Miguel Paul. Generally disappointing and a waste of space, but every once in a while, WOW."- ghtd36
I read somewhere (maybe the Grand Island, Neb., newspaper)...
…that part of the reason for the move was that the Summit League is a better academic fit for UNO.
Yes, you read that correctly. The Summit League is somehow a better academic fit than any other league in the country. I apologize if you spit up a drink on your computer.

better than the MAIA? I believe it.
The point of the ‘better academic fit’ statement was that the Summit League was an upgrade from the status quo.
