From the Kansas City Star:
The Purdue site on the Rivals.com network is reporting “we have independently confirmed that Purdue's coach (Matt Painter) has been contacted by Missouri and it has been made known that he's the primary target in their search for a successor to Mike Anderson.”
BlackandGold.com even speculated that the price Missouri is willing to pay would exceed the $2 million offered to Anderson before he resigned on Wednesday and took the job at Arkansas.
The posting on the Purdue site is the first confirmation – outside the state of Missouri – of what we have been reporting for several days, that Painter is high on and perhaps the No. 1 man, on the list of Missouri athletic director Mike Alden.
This also confirms information from a Missouri source close to the Tigers’ athletic department, that Missouri’s interest in Painter is returned by Painter.
That source told The Star late Saturday night that “MU and Painter are now talking seriously.”
