MU Softball in a Billiken Twin Killin' (Live Thread)
Your #8 (as ranked here) Fighting Earleywine's will travel down I-70 meet the SLU Billikens in a 3:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. double header. Junior Kristen Nottelmann will get the start in the circle for game 1, sporting a 12-1 record on the season. She has already defeated the Bills this year back on March 5, as Nottelmann tossed a five-inning no-hitter and the Tigers run-ruled SLU 12-0.
As for these games, let this serve as your open thread for all the action. MU is 62-2 all-time against the Billikens, who are currently 26-17 and a solid 9-5 in conference. Need more info? Look no further....

note that i, too, spelled it incorrectly
but in a manner less insulting. my death will be swift and my burial respectful.
It's kind of ridiculous that the STL Post-Dispatch didn't even put in a small paragraph
or even mention the softball team until today to say that they were playing SLU. Meanwhile, they’ve done stories of SEMO baseball and Illinois College basketball.
for the love...
Willy, I don’t know how much you make, but you make enough to hire a driver. Idiot.
What do you mean I can't retire at 32?
By the by...
I will not be around at the start of the game for the specifics, so anyone is welcome to pick up the slack if you are so inclined

Princess Krebs singles, right fielder for SLU comitts an error and Lee scores while
Ruggeberg goes to third and Krebs to second. 2-0.
can anyone explain to me
why i would want a mizzou jersey autographed by george strait and/or reba mcentire? just got an email advertising same.
I can't explain
why you would want one. I don’t know you personally.
People who are both Mizzou fans AND George/Reba/country music fans might be interested, however.
well, but neither has any actual connection to Mizzou, right?
so it’s basically the same as a, like, Mick Jagger-signed Mizzou jersey?
Thanks for clarifying.
Suffice to say I will not be placing a bid. But you’re right – that doesn’t mean others won’t.
no
see below. If it was only one signature or definitively 2 signatures, people would ask you before you could move on. The way it is set up now will have people on their way home before they even get to that question. And THAT is how you win at parties.
because you can frame it
and point to it as people come to your house and say “That my jersey signed by Reba and/or George.” And while people try and figure out why the signatures would be an “and/or” situation (not even reaching the question of why you would get these signatures on a Mizzou jersey) you can move on nonchalantly to show people your stuffed dog and cat that you have dressed up in a wedding gown and tuxedo so it looks like they are getting married to the duck preacher.
Look man, if you can’t keep up on high fashion, people are going to notice.

If you bump into Randy Jackson and all you have on you is a samurai sword
…you’re not gonna not get Randy Jackson’s autograph, right?
OK SLU, I have good news and bad news.
The good news is that you won’t be facing Chelsea Thomas.
Hooray!
The bad news is that you’ll be facing Kristen Nottelmann.
Sigh.
We'll probably see Nottelmann in game 2. We got enough of a cushion to test out
Hudson’s pitching ability at this point in the season.
Some article from somewhere said Nottelmann would pitch today
I guess I just assumed it would be Game 1…but hey…I dont think it is going to make too much of a difference in the end.

Gametracker is stuck, but Twitter says we batter around and put up a 4-spot.
4-0 Tigers, Nicole Hudson apparently going to start in the circle. I don’t think she’s pitched since the first tournament of the season in San Diego.
2 errors in the inning...I think the fielding is struggling

RPI up to No. 5
Looking at the hot-off-the-press RPI rankings, last weekend worked wonders for the women, moving up from (I believe) No. 8 last week.
Based on remaining schedules, assuming all things (i.e. continuing to win) being equal among the top teams, I could see us getting as high as No. 3. Texas and Arizona both have killer schedules to close out the season, so barring a complete collapse by either — even losing a couple shouldn’t hurt them much — I expect them to be the top two in the RPI. Georgia and Alabama both have a few easier teams, so I think they could drop. But we should stay in the top 5, IMO (again, assuming we continue to win).
Not to put carts in front of horses (did people not have any other way to keep horses from moving back in the day?), but a regional host looks to be pretty much a lock, and hosting again for supers is not looking bad, either…

We should bench Hudson for Nottelman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And action catches back up
bottom of the 5th, still 5-4. Hudson has given way to Muller, who just completed her 2nd innning of work.

quick question:
if thomas can pitch 748 pitches in back-to-back starts, why couldn’t nottelman pitch both games today?

i mean, she probably could
but what’s the point? if chelsea gets injured and/or can’t go some weekend, and nottelmann got hurt from throwing two games in a doubleheader, you’d be kicking yourself for throwing her in two games against SLU because those games literally dont matter.
they literally don't matter?
understand i’m kind of a new softball follower and really not trying to be a pest, but why do they play these games, then? and the game was in the balance before we got those insurance runs in the top of the 7th, so if we’d lost, it wouldn’t hurt us?

well
i mean, you have to fill the schedule. no one is going to play 54 games against all top-25 teams. SLU isn’t a bad team by any means, but yes, you should beat them. would we drop in the rankings if we lost? sure, but i don’t think a loss to SLU would be demoralizing, and it shouldn’t change the perception of what this team can accomplish. they got whooped by north texas a few weeks ago. does anyone even remember it now? once you get into conference play, the main objectives of these midweek games are to keep everyone healthy, and get some looks at kids who might not play as much.
i don’t want to totally write off these games as totally pointless (even though i kind of did already), but they aren’t worth risking injury to your pitchers (or anyone) over
ok, thanks.
an in-season glorified scrimmage of sorts is what i glean from this. useful, that.

Probably because she has not thrown more than a few innings at a time for awhile
and Blink’s logic is solid as well

And the Tigers win the night-cap 5-1
Nottelmann goes the distance, giving up 1 earned run on 6 hits with 6 walks and 8 K’s. Ruggeberg goes 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s to lead the offense. Mizzou moves to 37-5 as they prepare for a weekender at Nebraska (Friday and Saturday games due to Easter holiday)
