so....2 Indy sources are implying that Gunner is going choose Indiana
Naw! Now I do want to see Gunner choose Mizzou.

Of course they do.
Ugh! I hate the fact that I’m still stuck with Explorer 6 here at work because the number of sites I can access is shrinking by the day! It seems I will have to wait to read the article on Gunner until I get home this afternoon.
That said, I am unsuprised to hear that the hometown newspaper is implying that Gunnar Kiel is leaning toward the hometown team. Yes, the kid might follow an (assumed) loyalty to the Hoosiers but I would be highly surprised to see such a highly touted recruit, with the NFL expectations that go with that, choose one of the lowest performing programs in the B1G. Of course I will also be honest and say that I doubt we’ll see in in CoMO either, as a Tiger at least, simply because from what I have heard of his skill set he seems unlikely to choose a program that utilizes the spread. This isn’t because Mizzou isn’t worth but simply because those NFL expectations and the poor preception that the NFL seems to have regarding spread QB’s.
Here’s to hoping that I am dead wrong on this one!
Is Oklahoma really a spread?
Pretty sure they run a lot of formations. Some form of spread may be the predominant one, though.

when Bradford was actually playing what they did was a spread
certainly they ran out of other sets, including the use of a fullback, but they lined up out of the gun with 1 or no back sets quite a bit.
I didn't say that it CAN'T happen...
…only that I don’t expect it to happen. What can I say, I’m a Mizzou fan who is old enough that he keeps his expectations in check. That and I blame Bill for the recent MIZ…ERY series which hasn’t helped.
Truthfully, I wouldn’t consider myself a recruitment guru in any way, shape or form but my expectations on getting Gunner Kiel here aren’t particularly high. The fact that Gabbert fared well in the draft is a definite help, as is our recent history regarding the NFL draft. The fact that Kiel appears to be geared more toward a pro-style offense coming out of high school just makes me think that he’ll lean that way in making his college selection, or at least put a premium on programs where the QB spends at least part of his time under center. Of course this feeling is largely dependent upon a number of assumptions on my part, largest being that the Kiel family is approaching things much like the Gabbert family did in seeing college football as a business decision.
The big issue in all of this are the intangibles. Indiana may have the plus of loyalty and being close to home, Mizzou might benefit from our family atmosphere (god I love hearing recruit after recruit mention that) and committed coaching staff. Again, as links today reminded us, we’re talking about teenagers being asked to make decision which may have a very large bearing upon their future.

Nobody knows anything.
He might commit to Indiana, but…
This is the anonymity Kiel craves. No questions about recruiting. No questions about which school he is visiting next or where he has been. No one, other than the three teammates at his table, is paying him any attention at all.
But there’s still talk.
A couple of tables over, in between bites of a sandwich, one of his assistant coaches says: “I don’t think anybody knows where he’s going.”
He pauses for a moment, then adds: “I’m not sure he knows where he’s going.”
Thanks, Bill!
I’ll still take a few minutes this afternoon to read those articles but having some clue as to what is being said helps fill the void of the summer lull.
I had already surmised that Kiel was keeping a relatively low-profile (an intangible plus?) and might be indecisive but it is good to hear something to that effect as opposed to the total conjecture that we seem to get regarding his preferences. At this point I can go happily on with my day not knowing what is really going on and hoping, against personal belief, that he may wind up in the black and gold.
Random observations regarding the information from the links
1) The writer graduated from SMS in 2000 then covered Springfield sports before moving on to Indianapolis. Just puttin’ that out there.•
2) If drive time is a concern, we are the closest drive (outside of IU) on his fictional shortlist… so there’s that.
3) There is precedence within the last 5 or 6 years of the number 1 rated pro-style quarterback staying with the in-state school and shunning more big-time offers. Granted, that University was probably in a better football place than IU is at this point, but there are parallels.
• I know nothing of the reporter that wrote both blog entries— this is a friendly blanket application of the “SMS Hates Mizzou Principle”— nothing more.

Phil Steele is a pollster?
Sure couldn’t tell by his picks. His “power point” picks should be renamed his “politically biased power points” picks. I am just sarcastically surprised that Ohio didn’t still make his lists.

So VORM is still completely opinionated though, right?
And that’s not how that VORP thing works, right? Eh, whatever.
