#Mizzou LT Elvis Fisher leaves practice with what Gary Pinkel called "a significant knee injury."

{4pm edit - Report is that Fisher has ruptured his patellar tendon in his left knee and will miss the season}

Our amigo Gabe. Not a big deal. Everything's fine. Nothing to worry about. If you'll excuse me, I'm due for a crying jag in the corner. No, don't worry, it's a regularly scheduled crying jag; this has nothing to do with the potential serious knee injury to Mizzou's most important lineman. It's just like a check-up, you know?

your right

i’m not panicking because of Elvis’ knee. I’m panicking because I move in a week.

What do you mean I can't retire at 32?

Therefore...

He redshirts this year, adding stability to next year’s line in a season of additional turnover. Back in the current season, a youngster gets additional, important reps in meaningful games, and James Franklin’s not-at-all-Brad-Smith-like mobility helps mask any potential problems.

And…breathe.

At least that’s how the Wolf would spin this. Or Danny Ocean. You know, some beloved pop culture type.

the spin about him anchoring a younger line next year

is certainly a positive, while the injury also provides more experience for that line…

…that being said…still stinks if for the season.

So...

Lawrence to the left right.

Don’t think we need to overreact yet, maybe just react. We’ll see what the prognosis is, but you know Pinkel’s philosophy, move them up. So if it’s bad, we at least get three weeks to get Meiners, Freeman, Gatti, whoever into that role.

Steven St. John said Justin Britt was the man.

Britt was the man today (potentially) because of some other shifting

which was needed because Ruth was out this morning as well. Not saying I know if it will be Meiners or Britt, but we may need to wait and see how the line shakes out once everyone else is back and healthy.

It should be interesting.

I wonder at what point do we redshirt compared with brining him back. If the injury allows him back before conference play – I think it’s a no brainer. But what if he can come back for the first time at K-state? Or homecoming?

Obvioulsy none of this matters if it’s an ACL, but if it’s a meniscus or cartilage tear, he may have a chance to come back.

I would think that if he can come back with half the year left maybe

We might see that. If not, he should be an easy candidate for a 6th year (since I believe he RS’ed already) and he would return next year.

so basically homecoming?

That’s sort of what I was thinking. Of course, it may depend on how the team is doing. If the guy who ends up being inserted in is playing like a stud, there may not be a need to rush him back.

I don’t think that Fisher has been redshirted. The depth chart and roster on mutigers.com don’t list him as being a red-shirt.

Mark Hill was my roommate last year, so I know some of the O linemen...

Losing Elvis Fisher is a HUGE blow if this is really serious, but Justin Britt is a stud as well, so we won’t be looking at a dropoff that could ruin a season.

Well that sucks.

Hopefully it is either a) Not as bad as it could be b) He can get a medical redshirt for next year c) his replacement plays well enough to give Franklin a good start

Awful...

killer injury for a big guy. His knee must have been at an odd angle for that to happen. Wished I could have seen it.

Prayers to him for a full recovery.

never fail, move em up, move em over line

I have strong feelings that chris freeman could end up being the guy and starting his own legend. And hey, having a guy who is 6-8, 340 lbs on the field is never a bad thing.

by rockthenation on Aug 15, 2011 4:38 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Oh this is terrible.

Hurts a whole ton especially considering we have a new QB and will rely on a running game to get the offense going this year. Hopefully somebody can step in a do reasonably well in his spot.

Let's be optimistic here...

the last time a Mizzou player of this caliber went down, another player stepped up and had one of the greatest seasons in Mizzou history. He was a completely different position, but still…
