Mizzou Links, 8-17-11

Stay connected for news and updates

Seriously ... how in the hell do practice reports continue to take a back seat?? First there's MIZZOUEXPANSIONAPALOOZA™ 2011 ... then Elvis Fisher's injury ... then MIZZOUEXPANSIONAPALOOZA™ 2011 again ... and now Nevin Shapiro...

That said, as I mentioned on Twitter last night, we are never prouder and more terrified of the Rock M Nation community than when it's time for the annual karma thread. Well done. And keep it coming!

Frank Haith Has Some 'Splaining To Do Links

More thoughts on Haith later (when I have time). For now, here are the links. And if Mizzou Basketball is trumping everything else in a mid-August links post, you know something bad has happened. I don't think a Rodney Purvis commitment would even trump football practice reports...

"The reports questioning my personal interactions with Mr. Shapiro are not an accurate portrayal of my character," Haith said in a statement released through the University of Missouri shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"The NCAA has instructed me not to comment further at this time in order to protect the integrity of their review." [...]

MU athletic director Mike Alden did not return a telephone call placed by The Star on Tuesday. But the school statement said:

"The University of Missouri acknowledges that the NCAA has requested to speak with Coach Haith regarding his time at the University of Miami. As a member of the NCAA and the Big 12 Conference, the University of Missouri will cooperate fully throughout this process. Per the NCAA’s request and guiding bylaws, we are unable to comment further … "

Haith said he would be "more than happy to cooperate" with the NCAA and that he looks "forward to a quick resolution."

So Kansas may be opening its blouse too, eh?

Mizzou Football Links

Remember when football practice reports were the No. 1 show for links posts? That was awesome.

The Trib (Dave Matter): Camp Chronicles: Sweet Sixteen

How is [James] Franklin handling the loss of [Elvis] Fisher? No sweat. "I have 20-15 vision, so I don’t have a blind side," he joked after practice. Franklin was kidding, obviously. But I think it's significant that he displayed some confidence in the wake of losing his best and most experienced offensive lineman. Franklin praised the work of Britt and Meiners and expressed faith in Britt's ability to replace Fisher. "It's something I try not to keep in mind when I'm back there taking a drop and worrying about pressure on the left side," he said. "I think they're doing a really good job. They're getting their job done, and I just have to get my job done no matter what happens. … Justin was a wrestler in high school, so he's got natural athletic ability. Elvis is just a beast. So, whenever they're out there, it's comforting to know they're going to work hard and they're going to get their guy." Speaking of Franklin, he showed great touch on some downfield throws during 11-on-11 drills, floating a perfect 30-yard pass to Wes Kemp over the linebackers and in front of the safeties.
