 Bill C. Family Update

It was a start-and-stop kind of night for the Bill C. family, but as of 5:35 a.m., Baby Bill C. had yet to make her appearance.

So I dont have a fancy google reader like Bill C. does, so if I miss stuff this morning, please feel free to drop it in the post.

The Trib: Concerns on the O-line

Only four players have started at center for Missouri the past 14 seasons.  It's been a continuous cycle of All-Big XII snappers that started with Rob Riti in 1997 and continued through Tim Barnes last fall.

However, the next center streak is over before it got started: Travis Ruth will miss Saturday’s opener against Miami (Ohio), the game that was supposed to be the junior’s first career start at center. Out since Aug. 13 with a strained Achilles’ tendon, Ruth will watch as left guard Jayson Palmgren moves over and handles the snapping duties, just as he’s done the last three weeks of practice. By most accounts, it’s been a seamless transition.

"If you would have told me last year when the season ended that Jayson Palmgren would replace Tim Barnes … that would not have been my first guess of the guys we had," offensive coordinator David Yost said.

The names of the suitors change by the year. Missouri softball Coach Ehren Earleywine’s answer does not.

When he learned that two Southeastern Conference programs had sought permission to speak with him about their coaching vacancies this summer, Earleywine gave MU associate athletic director Tim Hickman the same stock response.

"Just tell them no," said Earleywine, who has become increasingly coveted after leading the Tigers to three straight College World Series appearances. "I’m not even interested in hearing it."

The overtures never go further.

"I don’t know why any of them call, to be honest," Earleywine said. "I just don’t have any interest in leaving."

Agreed

I am pumped that the western illinois game will be sold out, that shows how far our program has come that we can sell out an almost guaranteed win like that.

That would explain why I haven't found ANY info on it...

I’d be interested to hear what he had to say, since our attendance averages have been steadily increasing. To expand to 80k would have to require the construction of an upper deck on the east side of the stadium, no?

by CapnCribbs on Aug 31, 2011 7:57 AM CDT via iPhone app up reply actions

That would look awesome. For seating 71k, our stadium never looked very impressive compared to some of the newer stadiums. Going up and trapping noise, in addition to the whole field being in a hole, would make for a very loud setting.

by A thru Zou on Aug 31, 2011 8:30 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

I don't think they can add an upper deck on the east side.

My understanding was that it had something to do with the stadium being right at the water table right now, so adding more weight to that side would cause all kinds of structural problems.

We all understand what being a Mizzou fan is like. That’s no excuse for being a douche.

$100 mill

at Tiger QB Club meeting in Columbia on Monday, Alden spoke generally about 4 projects they would work toward next. Green Tennis Center — redoing the outdoor courts, going from 4 to 6 of them. And then needing to do “something” to the rest of the facility. Finishing the plans for the baseball stadium, which he called “half done”. Improving softball stadium, including permanent outfield seating. And then work at Faurot, some of which is just maintenance, mud-jacking and the like, then some to increase capactiy and gain more priority seating. Mentioned the East side, specifically, I believe, on the priority seating. Said cost of all those would likely be $100 million, $60+ of that for the football renovations. But stressed that no decisions were made, football especially would have to be approved by Board of Curators, dollar figures weren’t set, etc.

may have been another project too, but those 4 are what I remember. Also said they spent $1 million recently on MATC renovations, which were basically all the video screens, multimedia stuff hanging in there now. (No new carpet, moving walls, or anything).

by jbecking on Aug 31, 2011 9:06 AM CDT up reply actions

Awesome! Thank you!

Sixty million is a LOT of money for renovations to the stadium. The current pressbox and suites we have now only cost 13 million, so I would imagine the newest addition would include adding some kind of structural seating addition.

I am so grateful for the links posted and wish to thank Beef for stepping up to the plate as pinch hitter.

I look forward to them to the point I go through withdrawls on the weekends. On that same note, at this point, most of the news is busy work 3 days before game time. I still look forward to it but most are rehashing to same stuff from 3 days ago. At this point, the duh factor, I AM JUST READY TO GET TO GAME TIME ALREADY! However, the news on Bill C, Mrs Bill C and Baby C are fun to watch for. Cheers to you all and best wishes!

The Franklin article was really good

I learned a lot of things about him that I did not know before. Seems like a really great kid. Humble off the field in his faith and fiery on the field.

The hug thing was weird though. Even Tebow can hand out hugs I’m sure.

by Mac6uffin on Aug 31, 2011 9:21 AM CDT reply actions

I'm getting tired of hearing about hi ho silver already

You can effectively discipline a child without corporal punishment. And the fact that he got spanked for getting a hug is very strange.

spanking a 15 year old seems kind of odd.

my dad used to say that you spank a kid until they turn 13, after that you kick their ass.

I raised my children with very little corporal punishment and that was at the elementary age, very light and hardly ever used but to each his own. It looks like James Franklin has grown up to be a wonderful young adult so who am I to criticize. His parents obviously were doing something right.

New unis?

SWEET!!!

START THE GAME ALREADY! So we can get to half time.

I always watch halftime. It is really annoying when watching on TV and you never get good shots of the halftime show. Well, sometimes there’s some but still. My wifes’ Grandmother would write strong letters to the cable provider in KC about that.

by MarioVanPeebles Republic of China on Aug 31, 2011 10:00 AM CDT up reply actions

Yessir. And much thanks go to Mike Alden for signing the check.

It is nice to hear from a halftime fan – we work hard to put out a new entertaining and fun show for (almost) every game. Thanks for the kind words.

But, honestly, nothing can beat the feeling and rush of playing pregame. Games like Nebraska ’07, OSU ’08, Nebraska ’09, Oklahoma ’10 – where the crowd is ready to rock well before kickoff – create an unmatchable experience for us on the field. Waltzing down the field in the block “M” set, not being able to hear ourselves as we play the alma mater, the roar of the crowd during “Flip Tigers”… Even thinking about it gets me really pumped for Saturday.

The first show is some random fun rock 'n' roll.

Free Ride, Separate Ways, Sweet Child of Mine.

Sweet Child is also the ‘band day’ song, so we will be joined by hundreds upon hundreds of high school band students from around the state.

by jooooooooones! on Sep 2, 2011 9:55 AM CDT up reply actions

They are going to look so sharp.

We actually haven’t had a chance to be in them all at once yet, so I think we are as excited as anybody. I think a lot of heads are going to be turned – so hopefully people will actually be in the stands before kickoff, hah. I remember some games in the last couple of seasons playing for about 1/3 capacity in pregame, which is kind of a bummer.

After four years wearing the old ones – hopefully my gameday experience will smell a little better, haha.

Varies slightly, depending on other pregame events and announcements.

May I make a request for the marching band for pep songs?

I really enjoyed the “Family Guy” theme when you’ve done that…

and I think a huge winner would be the Angry Birds theme. Can you see about adding that to the repertoire?
