Mizzou Links, 9-16-11
Apologies for the lack of non-links posting this week. Finishing up work work has kicked my butt a little bit, and there wasn't a BTBS preview post to do with an FCS opponent. Starting next week, you'll be getting too much of me.

- KC Star: Deaton finally says it: Mizzou waiting on OU move
Tulsa World: Fate of Big 12 said to rest with OU
College Football Talk: Mizzou chancellor: OU decision could come within 10 to 14 daysAlthough Deaton professed conference unity, he also noted that "every member of the board's primary commitment is to their own institution."
Without prompting, he suggested that Missouri would have no trouble finding a BCS conference home should the Big 12 disintegrate. He declined to discuss possible destinations, nor reveal schools under consideration to join the Big 12 should the remaining members choose to fight for survival. [...]
"I'm very proud of the University of Missouri and its brand, the high esteem by which we're held in the nation," he said.
"There's real virtue in patience these days," he added. "It's changing all the time ... Our position is we're waiting to see what the rest of the conference does, particularly Oklahoma."
On Thursday, Deaton and Missouri athletic director Mike Alden met with a 20-member campus athletics oversight committee whose members include faculty, staff, students and alumni. The meeting was closed to reporters.
"Alden just said it's up in the air," according to a participant in the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the session was supposed to be private, "that we're waiting on Oklahoma. There weren't even any questions. I was kind of surprised." - PowerMizzou: Powered Up: Honesty not the best policy

KC Star: Mizzou's L'Damian Washington and Marcus Lucas are catching onWhen practice began in August, Washington was listed behind Jackson on the depth chart. Lucas was third behind Wes Kemp and Brandon Gerau.
"It was hard," Washington said. "Definitely hard. Those guys in front of us, those are great guys. They know what they’re doing, and they’re talented.
"I’m learning from those guys. Every day I’m just trying to go out and get better."
But wondering when your chance would come — if it would come — that’s no easy assignment.
"But you take it," Lucas said. "We all know that you have to fight and you have to push to do something better than they’re doing. It’s good to have juniors and seniors in front of you, because they’re showing you the way it’s supposed to be done. It makes you work harder."

SW: What was your relationship like with Nevin Shapiro?
FH: That’s specific. That’s something that I know — I’m learning here, Steve — that’s something I know I cannot talk about.
SW: As far as issuing any sort of strong denial, is there a reason that you doing so would be seen as interfering with an NCAA investigation?
FH: That’s something that I’m trying to figure out, but I’ve said this before. We did, I did nothing wrong at the University of Miami with our program. We will have our time to speak, and that’s all I know I can say.
SW: You're in a difficult spot, because this all came out, in terms of recruiting …
FH: We’re doing fine. I heard about the article you guys wrote, but we’re doing fine in recruiting. We’re doing fine. We’ve had a lot of guys come on campus, and we will still continue to have guys come on campus.

Please note the author of the Tulsa World Article
He is the Columbia, MO AP writer/Mizzou associate professor who won’t pass up an opportunity to write a negative article about the universities athletic deptarment, ALAN SCHER ZAGIER. I’m suprised there is no mention of Ricky Clemons.
two things
1) Zagier isn’t an associate professor (partly because there’s no such title at MU, but mostly because he doesn’t work for us). He left a one-year fellowship with the journalism school in 2005 a few months early to write for the AP. He has an office in the Columbia Missourian building as of about a year ago; per our agreement with the AP, we must furnish a local reporter with office space if we have it to spare, and the Tribune wasn’t able to accommodate him.
2) would it have been possible to write a positive article featuring Ricky Clemons?
by jschooltiger on Sep 16, 2011 6:42 AM CDT up reply actions
two things
1) He was listed at one time as a Professor in the directory, Associate or Assistant whichever term the university uses for faculty without full tenure.
2) I don’t believe you interpreted what I wrote correctly, and only jump to defend him because of your personal relationship with him.
If you read every article he has ever written, its obvious that he has an agenda. He mentioned Clemons/Floyd fiasco several times in recent (last two years) pieces which had no relation to the topic he was writing about.
I don't have a personal relationship with him
other than I fixed his internet once.
My point is, he’s not employed by MU and hasn’t been since 2005.

Let's not accuse folks . . .
of being motivated by personal relationships (factual or fictional) or other things we don’t know about. This is a nice place with nice people.

Sorry
Just don’t like the way AP writer in Columbia portrays the athletic dept. No offense meant, assumed that Jschool and Alan knew each other because of proximity. Personal may have been the wrong word, but I am an engineer and not a journalism major.
Wish to thank Texas, LHN and BurntOrange for humbling us all
Apparently everyone else has had a wrong point of view! Shame on us! We should thankful for Texas! I mean to kindly think of others as they blaze a trail into scary territory! How brave they are! It tis an honor for them to bestow such knowledge to us peasants! I now admire that horse they ride into this battle as it is so high! Would be a shame to ever see them to get off their high horse! And I thought they were a greedy and narcisstic bunch! I guess I was too quick to judge them and the point of the LHN.

Truly they are the prometheus of our times.
I wonder if they’ll end up chained to a rock with a hungry eagle nearby.

I don't know
the image of the ball flying through the air seems too forward, progressive.
Where’s the cloud of dust or the SPEEDY defender?
"I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order. Like they should be."
Change that blue to black and I agree.
Scratch that. Put the SEC inside a Mizzou logo and then I will like.
If we joined the SEC or any conference, it will take a while for me to be a conference fan and I will always be a Mizzou fan first.
ku loves Missouri as every parasite has to have a host.
I will never ever ever chant: "S E C" at one of our home games no matter what.
Ok, so 2396 isn't dead. But the zombies starved and I'm still not drinking this shitty Oakheart.

I won't say that.
If we play ku in non-con and they end up in the Big East or MWC for a lot less money, it could be fun to chant “SEC Dollars, SEC Speed!”
/Justdreamingahead
ku loves Missouri as every parasite has to have a host.
Well, in that case I would chant "M W C" or "BIG LEAST" just for them.
Even if we joined, IMO we will never truly be an SEC member-type school. And I don’t know how Vandy takes it.
Ok, so 2396 isn't dead. But the zombies starved and I'm still not drinking this shitty Oakheart.

Haith:
“Believe it or not, those recruits know me a lot better than…well, they know me very well.”
Haith almost slipped and said something real, that he doesn’t really know Shapiro.
Very VERY interesting.

Burnt Orange Nation and Iamthe1thman
are the tigerboard of UT and TAMU. There is no other explanation.
Bring on the Cats is having a heyday with kU's reaction to a Trib article:
In an emailed comment on the resolution, KU News Service Director Jill Jess said: "A Jayhawk is a blue bird with a red head and a big yellow beak that wears boots. It would be hard to confuse it with anyone with terrorist intent, though we admit we have been terrorizing the Tigers on the basketball court for some time. Tigers have been known to kill people. Bears, too."

You just can’t make this stuff up.

Wut ???
I am actually pretty skeptical that Texas gains a specific recruiting advantage from the airing of high school football on the Longhorn Network — although I freely accept that the Longhorn Network as a whole is a good recruiting tool for Texas.
What?
Circular is a type of logic.

The biggest idiots throughout the LHN fiasco?
Texas fans. There are about five of them capable of looking at the entire situation rationally, and the rest simply spout company lines and/or excuses.
