I know this probably does very little good, but if enough people let it be known that they are in favor of change, it could have some influence on the final decision.
To the Board of Curators,
I am writing this letter to express my support for leaving the Big XII conference and joining the SEC.
As 2002 graduates of the University of Missouri, My wife and I are very passionate supporters of the University and it's athletic programs. We are currently football season ticket holders and enjoy taking our 3 daughters (the oldest is 5) to football games at Memorial stadium. It is definitely an exciting time to be a tiger as atmosphere surrounding athletics at Mizzou is at an all time high.
I have always been proud that my school was a member of the Big XII conference. Not long after graduating from Mizzou, my wife and I moved to Tuscaloosa, AL. We lived in the heart of SEC country for 5 years before moving back home to Missouri. I proudly wore my Mizzou clothing, and fiercely defended my tigers and the Big XII in the land of the Crimson Tide. I truly felt that the Big XII was one of the strongest conferences. My opinion has changed during the last year and a half. What I felt was a great group of quality schools has been exposed as a group with a multitude of problems. From unequal sharing of revenue to a few schools "ruling" the conference, the problems have led to the instability that has already seen 3 conference members leave, and several other schools threaten to as well.
I am tired of being in a conference where Texas feels like all of the other schools should bow to them. Where Oklahoma flirts with leaving and then thinks everyone else should be grateful that they didn't. Where we worry in the back of our minds that it's just a matter of time before other schools flirt with leaving again, throwing the conference back into chaos. Being a member of the SEC would alleviate all of the problems that have turned the Big XII into shambles.
I trust you will make the best decision for the University of Missouri. Regardless of our conference, I will continue to support Mizzou.
