ESPN: Legal threat delays Aggies' move to SEC
Report says that one Big 12 school has withdrawn its consent to let A&M leave without a legal fight. It's fair to guess that Baylor is that school.

thats exactly why
Baylor can hold this up long enough to hopefully get themselves a BCS invite, theyre not going to let this all go down without a fight. Plus their President is Kenneth Starr, as in the dude who led the impeachment against Clinton. I’d say theyre gonna be sue happy for a while.

Why would they be pissed?
It’s every man for himself at this point. They would hang us out to dry with no reservations.
they would
but would we be pissed if they did?

Disclaimer – I am in no way shape or form advocating any action to be taken. I strongly and vehemently oppose attacks on our own country – even if it is kansas.

Besides,
We can still continue the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi OOC. Even if that is the only OOC game we play in football. We could even help KC’s plight in this demise of the Big XII.

Shouldn't they be suing Texas
rather than A&M? All the leftovers should sue Texas if the conference implodes. I would laugh a lot if the new Longhorn network money was totally consumed as an alimony payment to the leftovers.
ku loves Missouri as every parasite has to have a host.
Wow, A&M fans really are the worst
What bothers me is BU people justifying this crap as "doing what is best for their school, just like A&M is doing." Difference is A&M is not interfering with any other school’s business. Baylor needs to keep their eyes on their own damn paper and get out of our biz.
Yes, TAMU, you’re leaving the conference does not interfere with any other schools’ business. You just live in a magical bubble.

conspiracy theory
SEC wants to delay announcing A&M’s official entrance until they have the 14th team lined up…and they can’t line up the 14th team until the PAC-# makes its move to bring in OU/OSU/UT/TTU. This gives another day for everything to shake out so that the SEC can announce two moves at once.
I don’t believe that’s the case, though…nothing in this fiasco has moved quickly, and there’s no reason to think that’s going to change.

Wrong
Everyone has the image already. The actual image becomes somewhat irrelevant. This is like a football game that is 28-14 with 15 seconds left and the team leading has just taken a knee. The clock isn’t all zeros, but the games over. The clock hitting all zeros isn’t the moment. Just like the picture won’t be the moment.

then what IS the moment in your analogy?
When 1:00 was left? When the leading team scored the icing TD with 6 min left? The clock hitting all Zeroes is always the moment. (I know that because that’s when the Faurot Field cannon goes off.)
"I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order. Like they should be."
when the final play has occurred and the coaches are walking out to shake hands
which happens before the zeros hit the board.

I have to wonder
if Beebe’s letter to the SEC, in which he told them that all teams would not contest A&M’s move, could be considered a binding contract and this was used to leverage Baylor.
Or, Texas promised to invite all the remaining Texas and New Mexico teams into the Texas conference.
"When among evil companions, try to fit in." - Wild Bill Donovan
Wonder if they delayed the announcement for a day to give Texas 1 more day to try and convince OK to stay.
We don't even know if OU will be allowed to go
Colorado doesn’t want them and rumors suggest that other schools like the current dynamic. Larry Scott may have to do some serious arm twisting to get this to happen. It would be funny to see Oklahoma get Mizzou’d for once.
If theres anything I've learned about scott it is...
Last year he was some what an unknown in the PAC world as far as what he can do. But he has built him self such a reputation in a short time that I think regardless the universities hesitating, they will still go with what he recommends. I mean come on the guy got the 4th best football conference the best collegiate tv deal. How does that happen. Everything he has done has worked out, so I think hes earned himself a bit of leeway in these sorts of things.
Don't you think he expected all dominoes to fall last year when he brought in colorado and utah?
But instead of OU, Texas, A&M, OKSTATE, or whomever it was supposed to be leaving and driving the final nail in the big 12 coffin, they resisted. And what happened? The Pac 12 was left sitting there holding Colorado and Utah when what they really wanted was the other 4.
I think he may just be a little trigger happy right now and wants to make sure the stories of the big12’s demise haven’t been exaggerated.
Top Heavy Beer Drinker
You are right, I never said he got everything he wanted.
But he was able to turn that disappointment of last year into the best tv college deal in the nation. He may not get everything he wants, but whatever he does get he seems to turn into gold. Thus the reason I think the other schools will go along with him.
We should have gone after Utah and BYU last year when this all started
Expand into the SLC market and give Colorado the regional rivals they’ve always wanted. Instead, Beebe sat around with his thumb up his butt and now there are few viable targets left.
If there's one thing I've learned today
it’s that it’s never worth going to I Am the 12th Man. Not even for the lulz.
We all understand what being a Mizzou fan is like. That’s no excuse for being a douche.

Not so fast!
ESPN updated their story, apparently no one has waived their rights to sue.
The Sept. 2 letter was not intended to waive the rights of individual schools to sue and that decisions like that need approval from various boards of regents and other university overseers, the person said. “That certainly is not going to happen soon. You are not going to get all nine. You might get some,” that person told the AP. “Very few, if any, are willing with the uncertainty and instability of the Big 12 at this point to release their claims.” In a text message, Texas Tech’s Bailey confirmed that the university’s board of regents would have to waive the school’s right to pursue legal action. He also said Big 12 members were planning a conference call later Wednesday.
Why would anyone waive their right to sue?
It seems ludicrous.
Fuck them & make it painful.

Agreed
People over at I Am the 12th are bitching and moaning about Baylor, but why would anyone waive their right to be compensated for a breach/infringement of contract that causes monetary damages?!?!?!
love teh article quote that i read earlier
“Of course, Baylor had no problem ditching its old Southwest Conference partners back in the 1990s to join the newly formed Big 12. So don’t shed too many tears for the Bears.”
Irrelevant...
Whether or not other people waived their rights to sue over Baylor’s departure from the Southwest Conference, is irrelevant as to whether or not Baylor should waive theirs. Not to mention the fact that Baylor is an institution run by people, and all of the people that made the decision to join the Big 12 are undoubtedly gone.
I must say, Lady . . .
. . . you certainly have a way with words: and in this instance, I am in agreement with them all.
So what about this though..
A&M was given permission to leave the conference next year (theres no doubting that) so waht if they end up waiting till the time they were given to leave, so now they are no longer part of the Big 12, then they sign with SEC or whatever conference. Nothing Baylor could do then.

although I haven’t heard ku and ksu, just ISU and Bayor
God, I am loving this
The little guys giving A&M the finger. Of course, I want the damn conference to survive, so anything that makes that possible is lovely IMO, too.
What I find interesting (warning- goofy conspiracy theory coming) is WHY the SEC is publicly saying they won’t take A&M w/o the waiver of legal rights. I am still wondering if there are powerful folks out there (even within the SEC) who aren’t that thrilled with what is occuring. Maybe the SEC really DOESN’T WANT A&M, and this is a polite, politically saavy way to say ‘sorry, can’t do it’? Dodd said we were throwing ourselves at the B10- not really- A&M ABSOLUTELY is throwing themselves at the SEC. The level of desperation over there makes me wonder if the SEC wasn’t sort of lukewarm the whole time, and A&M thought they could force their hand by jumping out the window and assuming the net would be there.
It seems crazy, but A&M doesn’t exactly have stellar leadership- their athletic dept. is freaking borrowing money from the academic side to make ends meet, for cripes sake. And of all the moves so far this has seemed to be the least well thought out, and the most driven by pure emotion (and ‘what the fans want’- in other words, borderline insanity) over logic.
How hilarious would it be it A&M got chained to the B12 instead of escaping? You know what they say about pride coming before the fall…
