So when does today's game at Bramlage start? Didn't realize they were just going to show a replay of each of the last seven games first.

So I spent New Year's just outside of Manhattan hunting pheasant.

Went and poked around Manhattan for a while, checked out campus and Aggiville. Bramledge and Snyder Stadium are in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn/soybean fields. The whole town just felt kinda…frumpy. Anyone else have experience or thoughts about the Little Apple?

My fiancee's extending family farms up there. Kind of required to go.

There were all these advertisements on the interstate about “Visiting the Great Flint Hills.” So we visited them…they looked like gopher mounds in a grass field. I’m not saying the Ozarks are massive or anything…but they are still better than that.

Manhattan doesn't have a lot going for it. Without the college, it's just another Kansas farm town.

first half shooting numbers - pretty easy to spot where the problem is

ratliffe 0-0
english 0-1
moore 0-2
dixon 0-2
p. pressey 0-3
m. pressey 1-6
denmon 4-7

need offense from english and ratfliffe, obviously. one shot from between the two of them is not good at all, though I’d say KSU’s doing a good job making sure those two don’t see the ball in a dangerous position. matt presser’s probably getting the most looks so far, and there’s probably a reason for that – KSU isn’t worried about Matt Pressey beating them on offense.

To quote Charles Barkley: We're a jump shooting team

When you’re a jump shooting team some games it doesn’t go. Some games it does. We’re not 40 points better than Oklahoma. We’re not 20 points worse than K-State.

K-State is forcing us into difficult takes and then getting layups and hitting closely guarded shots on the other end. The key for the team (and us) is not to overreact to one loss (yeah, this game is done).

Mizzou has some structural flaws, and as much as I love Bill’s previews, we’ll have to shoot our way out of them most of the time. Today, the shots are not dropping.

Hahaha

I mean I haven’t really seen an improvement.

by Fullback U on Jan 7, 2012 2:38 PM CST up reply actions

I think the improvement has come...

…in that the ratio of Good Flip to Bad Flip has improved. Bad Flip is still really bad.

by Bill C. on Jan 7, 2012 2:41 PM CST up reply actions

And Bad Kimmie is still really really bad

As much as he has improved this year, we can’t have him play this poorly on the road and expect to be in the game

by Hapgrass on Jan 7, 2012 2:42 PM CST up reply actions

haven't seen too many bad kimmie moments today

feel like it’s been more nonexistent kimmie, can’t remember him having any kind of an impact today

Well his line is pretty poor

5 points, 0-3 from 3, 2 fouls, only 2 TOs (seems like he has more) and only 1 rebound. He’s not alone in stinking today but he is as much of a key on both ends as Flip and Denmon.

by Hapgrass on Jan 7, 2012 2:47 PM CST up reply actions

This is also true

Kim English can NOT afford to disappear like he did today.

You either die a Tiger, or you live long enough to see yourself become a Jayhawk.

by Fullback U on Jan 7, 2012 2:44 PM CST up reply actions

Meh Bad Kimmie isn't anywhere near what we've seen the last 3 years

Only 2 TOs, only 4 FG attempts. It’s not the 4/15 with 5 TOs or whatever.

Not afraid to nitpick

by joker24 on Jan 7, 2012 2:45 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed

KSU has played well defensively on him and he can’t create his own shot. But tomorrow’s another day and hopefully we can exploit our strengths better than today.

by Hapgrass on Jan 7, 2012 2:48 PM CST up reply actions

i'll agree with that

it’s probably not fair, but I’d really like a little more leadership from him. Despite being an underclassman on a veteran team, he’s expected to run our offense and handles the ball more than any other player…which is probably why his silly fifth foul bugged me so much.

Shit the wife says:

After a missed 3-pointer…
Her: “yay good shot!”
Me: “um, homey, that missed…”
Her: “it did? But I heard it go clank!”

No, this is how it always is

Shoulder blocks are legal at the Hexagon, elbows are legal at the Phrog, and I’m sure something is legal at Mizzou. Not that we would ever take advantage of that.

Meh

wouldn’t say they didn’t compete.
KSU may not lose on their floor in league. That’s a decent bet.
Mizzou has to hit shots to win. Didn’t hit shots. It happens. When we lose it’s likely to be ugly. I doubt we’ll lose many close games.

As much as I hate Matt Pressey taking 3 pointers

I love that he’s still going balls to the wall on defense.

Not afraid to nitpick

by joker24 on Jan 7, 2012 2:48 PM CST reply actions

Takeaways

— Matt Pressey is a horrible shooter. I’d always leave him open 17 feet and beyond if I were any opposing team.

— Ricardo Ratliffe is too easily discouraged. When he’s riding high, he’s dangerous, and when’s down on himself, he turns into a baby. We saw this more last year, but he’s got to buck up on the road this season.

— When going gets tough, the guards stop looking inside. Ratliffe needed more touches.

— Big 12 road wins are precious and hard to come by.

We weren't going to go undefeated, anyway.

And I always thought this game would be near impossible to win, so, no biggie. Defend the home floor, win at TT, OU, and steal at least two or three more on the road. They’re still title contenders. And they’ll give it to K-State as good as they got when the come to Mizzou Arena, methinks.

by Bivouac77 on Jan 7, 2012 2:52 PM CST up reply actions

I'm curious how many minutes RR had today

It seems like if he doesn’t get involved in the first 5 minutes offensively he disappears but foul trouble killed any chance he could get going in this game.
