William Moore: NFC defensive player of the week

Kevin C. Cox

One week after Aldon Smith won the NFC's Defensive Player of the Month award, William Moore wins the NCF's Defensive Player of the Week award.

William Moore was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week this week for his two-pick performance against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.

With two interceptions and 13 tackles in Atlanta's 23-13 win over New Orleans last week, safety William Moore earned NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 13.

Atlanta Falcons safety William Moore has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after his two interception performance in Atlanta’s 23-13 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 13.

Moore posted one of the best games of his career, notching a game-high 13 tackles (10 solo) with two interceptions, and two tackles for loss. […] According to coaches’ breakdown, Moore has tallied a team-high 105 tackles (74 solo) with eight passes defensed, four tackles for loss, four interceptions and one sack. His four interceptions are the second most he’s had in a season and rank tied for fourth among all safeties this season. This is the first Player of the Week award of Moore’s career. He is the first Falcon to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors since CB Brent Grimes in Week 15 of the 2010 season.

It took a little bit of time for Moore to establish himself at the next level. As much as anything, nagging injuries seemed to get in the way a bit. But he seems to be completely and totally living up to the second-round potential the Falcons saw in him heading into the 2009 NFL Draft. It is very, very cool to see Moore and Sean Weatherspoon doing excellent things for the same team.

Oh yeah, and he's still Willy Mo.
