I'm at work, but saw that the game was going to be streamed on NBCSports.com
with multiple camera angles.
So, though I don’t care about the game, or either team, I figured I might as well watch
I am picking the Pats. I’ve seen a lot of people in St. Louis referencing that they hate the Pats. Can’t figure out why? The 2001 Super Bowl?

I recognize the name Cortez Kennedy, but couldn’t tell you anything about him.

Dermontti Dawson defines what a Center should be like in football
He was like a LT playing Center. Just an absolute rock and brick wall. Started every game for Pittsburgh from 1989-1998. Obviously it’s hard to have stats as a lineman, but he was All-Pro 6 times and a Pro Bowler like 8 or 9.
Cortez Kennedy is one of the best pass-rushing defensive tackles ever, and certainly of the last 20+ years. On some bad, bad Seattle teams of the late 80s and early 90s, he was their entire defense. Double-teamed, triple-teamed, it didn’t matter. Multiple all-pros and pro bowls, brutally disruptive force in the middle and didn’t miss a game for almost a decade.
Now Jack Butler…yeah, no idea. I’m guessing he’s one of the old-timers that got voted in.

Maybe somebody with a little more knowledge of the rules can help me out here.
Why isn’t 12 men on the field a dead-ball penalty? If the defense is allowed to put extra men on the field and essentially run 12 seconds off the clock, why don’t defenses put 16 men on the field in late game situations like that?

Because the 12th man can still run off the field.
It’s not illegal ’til the ball is in play.

That makes sense.
But I still feel like this is a huge loop hole in the rules and if I were the Giants I would have put extra men on the field again for the next play. Give the Patriots five more yards but make damn sure that they eat up some clock and don’t complete a pass. Hell … just throw the entire sidelines onto the field.

You’re giving the offense a chance to succeed anyway, and the worst-case scenario is they will gain 5 yards with the clock stopped. If the offense can succeed even with the defense having too many men on the field, more power to them.
