Mizzou Links, 2-6-12
And here's the other half of your TO BE CONTINUED... links post.
Other Basketball Links
Kudos to Iowa State for moving to 7-3 in conference. I was skeptical of how good they might (or might not) be this year because of all the new pieces, but I think their trajectory could be instructive for Mizzou fans next year: they started pretty slow, then began to figure things out.

The Trib: Missouri recruits raised in the game
KBIA Sports Extra: 2012 recruit Michael Scherer ready to play for MizzouYost learned there’s one major advantage when recruiting the son of a high school head coach. Per NCAA recruiting guidelines, college coaches are limited in how often they can call a recruit and his family. But college coaches have fewer restrictions when it comes to contacting high school coaches.
In Green-Beckham’s case, Yost could pick up the phone and call Hillcrest’s coach on a whim. Of course, John Beckham also doubles as Dorial’s dad.
"The ability to call Coach Beckham and say, ‘Hey, are you coming up for the game this weekend?’ as opposed to having to email him and hope you get a response, it’s just easy communication," Yost said.
That’s why in April, three hours before Yost’s wife, Carrie, was about to give birth to their youngest son, Yost was free to send John Beckham a text message to offer Dorial a trade request: Pledge a verbal commitment, and he could name the newborn.
"He wrote back, ‘Dorial Yost would be a good name,’ " Yost said. "So, I wrote John back, ‘Does that mean he’s committing?’ He said, ‘I don’t know about that.’ "
Alas, Kamden Yost was born a few hours later.

The major reason I wanted to break these links into two posts was to shine a little light on the other Mizzou sports here. Wrestling looked strong this weekend, hanging tough versus No. 1 Oklahoma State and clubbing No. 10 Oklahoma; Mizzou Gymnastics continues to look pretty devastating, and baseball is right around the corner. Optimism is abound for virtually every Mizzou sport not named "women's basketball" right now.

yeahhh...
discreetly trying to read RMN while in class is ALOT harder with a video on auto-play.

For those more well-versed than me in code...
…would it have something to do with the “swLiveConnect” command? That, and “dynamicstreaming” are the only two that even slightly sound plausible…

Better idea
If it’s going to autoplay anyway, set it to the KU Clap Video. That’ll teach kids to surf in class.

I think it would be detrimental to our stats if we were to DISCOURAGE kids from surfing in class.

Well, at least TK isn't color blind...
…or else he might have said something tragic like “Bammer fan.”
To SEC, or not to SEC, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous Texas,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?
Just curious but how do you think the MU ku basketball rivalry compares to Auburn 'Bama football rivalry?
That's right Ice Man. I am dangerous
Pie Forever!
I gotta give you credit, there is some high quality hate there
However, having never been to an MU/KU game it’s hard to give an accurate assessment.

Sorry, but to answer, it's a "close, but not quite"
by SEC Supremacist on Feb 6, 2012 9:09 AM CST up reply actions
Well it's not a rivalry at all
Because kU fans just don’t care, Alden pays the refs so Mizzou is guaranteed to win, nobody cares about football, and since Mizzou is going the SEC they gave up the rivalry anyway.
/KANSAS’D
Only compares in KC...
… because of the neighbors v. neighbors, family member v. family member dynamic.

Honestly this is a better question for AlaTiger
Everyone around here is a Mizzou fan. I don’t even think I know any KU fans. Alatiger knows MU/KU and lives in the middle of Auburn/Bammer.

I'm told my wife's dad follows KU basketball.
But he lives two states away and isn’t considered a “fan”. However my family is all bammers. Bammers are worse than beakers could ever be. Wait until 10/13. You shall see.
Though I recommend getting security for the columns, they may try to pull them down.

It depends
I don’t think the level of intensity is any different, assuming you are in an area with a healthy mix of both fans. In STL, you hate Kansas because you are supposed to. In KC, you hate Kansas because you have to live with them.
With Auburn/Bama, you clearly have a broader mix throughout the state. It is nowhere near 50-50, though. There are substantially more Bama fans, largely because of their history of success. If you aren’t a college graduate, you are much more likely to be a Bama fan. Also, there is a group of Bama fans, mostly older and in the north, that insists that Tennessee is Bama’s primary rival. Nobody insists anyone other than Kansas is Missouri’s primary rival.
At my work place at least, the Bama and Auburn fans are passionate, but largely well behaved. The ones who are less well behaved are universally Bama fans. That may be the nature of my work place, though. I have a feeling that in less educated work forces it is a lot worse. Put this way: no one in my office calls PAWWWLLLLL.
I know several mixed couples, so those of you freaking out about Mizzou and Kansas fans being married need to chill out. Also, I have friends and relatives who are graduates of one school who happily send their kids to the other school. This is certainly the exception, but it happens.
One other difference: Auburn/Bama is all about football, all that any one cares about down here is football, and virtually everyone down here cares about football. The Birmingham metro had far and away the highest average bowl ratings of any metro area in the nation.
Missouri/Kansas is much more of an all sports/any competition rivalry.
Well, it would be more of an all sports rivalry if Kansas was good at anything except basketball

look, i'm not saying mizzou/kansas marriages are going to hell or anything.
i just find it shocking that someone could find a beaker attractive, that’s all. maybe i haven’t met the right (or wrong) ones.

it implies that
you don’t think a few of us have attractive wives. Seems like some pretty dangerous waters to be treading into especially since the alatiger comment wasn’t directed at you or in reply to anything you had said.
Just seems like an interesting stance to take.
