As you may have heard, JUCO center Keanau Post, a 6'11, 260-pounder at Southwestern Illinois College, committed to Missouri over the weekend. Good luck finding up-to-date JUCO stats, but last I saw, Post was averaging a 12 & 10 this season for SWIC. And if this is accurate, he averaged 4.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 0.8 blocks and 0.5 steals per game last season in what I assume were minimal minutes.
"As soon as I get there working with the strength and conditioning coach, I think my upside is real good and I can fit in," said Post. "I know they're looking for me to be a bit of a scorer, which I know I can do with all the work I'll be doing in the weight room to get myself stronger. They want me to rebound which I know I can do. I can run the floor very well. The other day when I was up there, Alex (Oriakhi) did a great job of that. I think I'll put up the same kind of effort. Blocking shots, being there to clean up."
So far this season Post is averaging around ten points and ten rebounds a game for the 9-and-2 Blue Storm. Campo, said the system at Southwestern Illinois lends itself to balanced scoring and added his insight to what the future Tiger brings to the floor.
"I think the most important thing everyone is looking at is the most dangerous word in all of college basketball: Potential. He's big, he's got good size, he's got quick feet. His basic skill set is very good, he's just scratching the surface of where he's at. He's not delusional about what position he is. He's not an 'I want to go to the perimeter' type of guy. He is a legit back to the basket center."
There is minimal footage of Mr. Post on YouTube. You can sift through this 14-minute package from when he was in prep school if you want (and if you do, be sure to post your thoughts!). But for now I'll just post this instead.
So as it currently stands, here's how Mizzou's 2013-14 roster is taking shape:
- Seniors: Phil Pressey (PG), Earnest Ross (SF), Tony Criswell (PF)
- Juniors: Jabari Brown (SG), Jordan Clarkson (PG/SG), Keanau Post (C), Danny Feldmann (walk-on)
- Sophomores: Stefan Jankovic (PF), Negus Webster-Chan (SG/SF), Ryan Rosburg (C), Dominique Bull (SG), Corey Haith (walk-on)
- Freshmen: Johnathan Williams III (PF), Wesley Clark (PG), Torren Jones (PF)
A) That's pretty nice class distribution considering all the shuffling that has taken place in the last 12 months.
B) The expectations for this roster could vary wildly depending on whether Phil Pressey and/or Jabari Brown decides to go pro after this season.
