Mizzou Links, 11-11-13: 29-0, DGB, and only a few spots left in football recruiting

Joe Robbins

And a happy Veterans Day, veterans.

TWENTY. NINE. AND. OH.

Mizzou went down to the state of Alabama and took six of seven sets over the weekend, and Alabama's pretty damn good, too. We'll see if this makes an impact in this week's rankings later today, but let's just say that if Mizzou's still undefeated a week from now, after a Friday night trip to No. 5 Florida, the Tigers will be a top-five team.

Okay, or at least top-six. The AVCA coaches poll is more resistant to change/newcomers than even the football coaches poll.

The Trib (Behind the Stripes): GAME REWIND: Missouri 48, Kentucky 17

Mammoth: The Wildcats were actually on the verge of snatching some momentum from the shadow of their own end zone. On a 2nd-and-11 from the Kentucky 4, Sanders got a free release from the backfield and blew by Wilson, Darvin Ruise and White. Whitlow found him and got the ball there, with Sanders hauling in the pass and going 40 yards to the 44. But Wilson got on his horse as soon as he saw the big gainer developing and caught up to Sanders from behind as Webb engaged him low, punching the ball out as he flew in high on Sanders. Ruise, who also kept himself alive in the play, saw the ball resting beneath Webb's posterior and dove for said posterior, recovering the fumble at the 44. It made 40 straight games with a takeaway for Missouri and snatched any good feelings Kentucky may have had away. The game was still somewhat in reach, unless the Tigers' offense could do something with that field position. Which led to...

DGB 3: Mauk didn't scramble much against Kentucky, but he tiptoed down the sideline for a 19-yard gain on the second play after the turnover, setting up a 1st-and-10 from the 22. And where do you think he was going? Hey, you're right! Willis came on a corner blitz -- which Josey capably picked up -- and left Dixon alone on Green-Beckham. Dixon bit momentarily on a hitch-and-go, but actually recovered well to get into Green-Beckham's body as he leaped to haul in the back shoulder pass from Mauk. Whatevs. Green-Beckaham came back over Dixon, snaring the ball two-handed on the back of Dixon's helmet for the 22-yard touchdown. It was his third touchdown and one that would be a SportsCenter Top 10 play. It prompted ESPNU analyst Matt Stinchcomb to say "It's almost impossible, when there's a jump-ball scenario, to defend him." Yup. Missouri was up 35-10, and Green-Beckham was not done for the day. Oh no. He was not.
