The Missourian: Several bye week games could change Missouri football's bowl fate
Post-Dispatch: SEC bowls have Mizzou high on wish lists
After the Capital One makes its selection, the Outback Bowl (Jan. 1, Tampa, Fla.) and Cotton Bowl (Jan. 3, Arlington, Texas) share the next SEC selection.
"The caveat is this," said Mike Schulze, Outback Bowl director of communications and sponsorships, "if the Cotton Bowl and us want the same team then the contract reads that we get first right from the East Division and they get first right from a team from the West Division."
Just once in the last 16 years has a West Division team played in the Outback Bowl: Auburn in the 2010 game. And just twice in 15 years has an East team played in the Cotton Bowl: Tennessee in 2001 and 2005.
But if there’s ever a team that could break that trend it could be Missouri. Mizzou sold its Cotton Bowl ticket allotment in a few hours in 2007 and, along with fans from Arkansas, packed the Cotton Bowl for their game on Jan. 1, 2008. The game has since moved to AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
