| 2013 Depth Chart | Missouri has a lot of decent options at safety but no true standouts. If Rupert shines in August, he could certainly crack into the rotation. |
| 2014 Depth Chart | There are no seniors in the safety rotation right now, so if he doesn't make it into the two-deep in 2013, the battle will continue with the same players next fall. |
Rupert began to hear from Missouri in early January, when Pat Washington joined Gary Pinkel's staff as the new wide receiver coach. Washington recruited Rupert while he coached at Kentucky. After joining Missouri's staff, Washington passed along Rupert's name.
"Before that, I don't think they recruited my area at all," Rupert said. "He told them about me, and he said it came down to around five safeties they were looking at, but they decided to offer me."
Falling under the radar some, Rubert shows flashes of BCS caliber defensive back play and has a lot of physical ability like size and range for a program to develop. Has a good frame, stride and length with the room to continue filling out and adding the bulk needed to improve as a run support. Best asset is his ability to cover ground and make plays in all three levels of the defense from different alignments. This young man can run and recover quickly but his speed is more straight-line. Gets downhill quickly for alley run support when starting from a high-point position. Shows good long speed and range and also the ability to transition quickly and drive on the ball in front of him with solid burst. When timed right he jumps routes with the explosion and closing speed possessed by upper-tier safety prospects. […] Our main concern as a projected safety is his marginal tackling skills. Tends to lunge without breaking down or wrapping up in space. Lets up leaky yardage.
Missouri adds LOI from DB Shaun Rupert from Montgomery, Ala. Can't recall last MU player from Alabama.
