Over the last couple of days, Gary Pinkel and Frank Haith both picked up commitments from under-the-radar types.
On the football side, all-purpose back Trevon Walters picked the Tigers over seven other offers, including Minnesota and South Florida. It looks like he was starting to pick up some late interest from the likes of Boise State and others. Walters does not have a rivals rating yet. Trevon's junior year highlight video can be seen here.
The highlight that starts at the 1:58 mark cracks me up.
This makes it 19 commits now for Gary Pinkel's 2014 class. Pete Scantlebury and company over at PowerMizzou have said that Mizzou is still well in the hunt on a couple of "big fish," so this class still has potential. Here's hoping so.
Onto squeeky bouncy hoops. As posted on Sunday, shooting guard Ronnie Suggs chose the Tigers over St. Louis, VCU and Xavier. Suggs is currently rated a 2-star recruit by Rivals and is listed at 6'4, 175. He is a high school senior but plans on attending prep school for a year to "shore up his game and get stronger." Academics do not appear to be the reasoning at all for this as he listed as an honor student. This kid has two more years to improve his game before he steps foot on campus, and that's got to be a good feeling for Frank Haith, who is still chasing at least one more big get for the 2014 class. I always try to keep my faith in Haith, but when it comes to flat out recruiting, he's got my vote of confidence from now on.
That appears to be it for this week. Any reaction from the crowd? Anybody out there that you have been keeping an eye on and would think is a great fit in the black and gold?
