Mizzou Links, 1-24-14: The recruiting home stretch and a scoring imbalance

Mizzou's 2006 recruiting class had some silly star power. - Bill Carter

Missouri is on a mad dash late in the recruiting process, the 2006 class had some serious star power, and the basketball team has a bit of "imbalance," to put it politely.

1. 12 days to Signing Day

There is some crazy late recruiting action this year. Typically this staff has most of its work done in December and unearths some two-star kids to bring to campus in late-January (in the hopes that they're the next L'Damian Washington or Michael Sam). This year, there are some late two-star offers, sure, but a couple of relatively out-of-nowhere four-stars are on their way to campus this weekend as well. And a load of beef is visiting next weekend. Going to be fun. And if you hadn't noticed, PowerMizzou is killing it with the coverage.

So how do you quantify the most successful class?

If it's by sheer record, you might say the group that came in for the 2006 season. That group would also be tempting because it includes two of the six All-Americans in the study (Danario Alexander and Jeremy Maclin), the only two-time All-American (Maclin) and one of the two three-time all-conference performers (Sean Weatherspoon).

But that group's a little top-heavy too, as only 41.7 percent of them ever started and only 70.8 percent of them ever played.

The 2008 group would be a pretty good candidate as well, with two of five first-round draft picks (Blaine Gabbert and Aldon Smith), an All-American (Michael Egnew), 82.6 percent having started, 91.3 percent having played and nearly half having started for more than a year.
