Sports Network | November 29, 2008

Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Tennessee sent Phil Fulmer off on a high note, as the Volunteers collected a 28-10 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats in an SEC battle at Neyland Stadium.

Fulmer is the second winningest coach in school history with a 152-52 record. He has been affiliated with the school for 32 years, including four as a player and 28 as a member of the coaching staff in some capacity.

Tennessee (5-7, 3-5 SEC) rushed for 210 yards in the win, with Gerald Jones leading the way with 67 yards and one touchdown. Arian Foster added 59 rushing yards for the Vols, but averaged a pathetic 2.8 ypc.

As for the Wildcats (6-6, 2-6), they finished with just 193 total yards. Mike Hartline completed only 5-of-7 passes for 74 yards in the loss, while Tony Dixon led the ground game with 48 yards on 3.2 ypc.

The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie late in the first quarter when Lones Seiber connected on a 40-yard field goal.

It took Tennessee the entire first half, but the Vols finally got on the scoreboard when Jonathan Crompton plunged into the end zone on a one-yard run to close out the second quarter.

Less than two minutes into the third frame the Vols pushed their lead to 14-3 when Crompton hit Denarius Moore with a 63-yard scoring strike.

Tennessee went ahead 21-3 when Lennon Creer rumbled into the end zone on a five-yard run just seconds into the final quarter.

Alfonso Smith scored on a one-yard run late in the final stanza, but it was too late for the Wildcats, as they fell to Tennessee by an 18-pointy margin.
