Stop the wave, damn it

With all apologies to MC Boom of Doom (who was going to write this, but is currently sleeping), the wave sucks. It blows. Please, Missouri fans, don't do it, especially when we're only up 10-0 in the second quarter.

I've always hated the wave. I think it distracts the fans (ooh! Lets all stare at how people are standing up and then sitting back down! That sounds like WAY more fun than watching the game!) and gives a bad impression to the players (it can't be good when the players think "hey, our fans don't give a flying shit what's going on in the game").

So when our fans started doing the wave in the middle of the second f*cking quarter with Missouri up 10-0 on a high-powered Tech offense, that really pissed me off. Part of me understands why our fans (I was not one of them) did the wave against Nebraska when we were up 41-6 in the fourth quarter, but doing the wave in the situation our fans did against Tech was retarded. Like, Graham Harrell retarded. Mizzou was inside Tech's 10-yard line with a chance to go up by three possessions. There was a timeout (where?) on the field (oh!) and some jackasses in the southwest corner of the end zone stood up (isn't that novel, people standing during the game!) and started the wave. It died out and was resurrected a few times before finally making it around Faurot. Chase Daniel then proceeded to throw an interception in the end zone (which should have actually ended in a safety), giving Tech the ball on Mizzou's 20. Then karma struck when Harrell threw a long, long, touchdown pass to make it 10-7.

I'm probably looking into this too much, but maybe Tech saw that (no, they aren't a team of blind, deaf mutes, despite what you saw from Harrell) and figured that Mizzou had let their guard down. I mean, Harrell never tried to throw the ball deep again during the game. Whenever Graham Harrell uncorks one longer than 15 yards, it's headline news in Lubbock (right above the "new STD discovered on Tech campus" story). So maybe there is something to it.

I honestly was embarrassed for my school when the fans started the wave. Luckily, the final score made up for that, but it still pissed me off, which is why I wrote this.
