Oklahoma 4, Mizzou Baseball 3.  You know how I said the only way Wednesday could have gone better was if Kyle Gibson hadn't had to pitch that third inning against Texas?  And how I wasn't sure if he would be available to go on Thursday?  Well...I guess he wasn't available to go...and he did.  And Oklahoma scored two in the bottom of the ninth to win it.  Actually, I shouldn't pin too much on Gibson--the FOUR Tiger errors, all by the middle infield, led to two unearned runs and did the deed.  Here was OU's 9th inning:

Baker, A. singled through the right side (2-0). Buser, D.
pinch ran for Baker, A..

Hernandez, B grounded out to p, SAC, bunt (0-0); Buser, D. advanced to second.

Selby, S. pinch hit for Harughty, M.. Selby, S.
reached on an error by 2b (1-1); Buser, D. advanced to third.

Johnson, J. doubled to center field, 2 RBI (3-1); Selby, S. scored, unearned; Buser, D. scored. 2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 LOB.

A seeing-eye single and one solidly-struck ball shouldn't have scored two runs.

Tim Jamieson's roll of the dice--pitching Aaron Crow even though we could save him for Sunday if we won with somebody else--did not pay off, though considering Mizzou only scored three runs, I'm pretty sure we'd have lost with anybody else on the mound too.

So of the four scenarios I listed yesterday, here's the one that still applies:

If OU and UT win today...

OU 2-0
MU 1-1
UT 1-1
ATM 0-2

MU can still advance if they beat ATM and UT beats OU (in a three-way tie, the top seed advances).

So once again, go MU and go Texas.  We blew a GOLDEN opportunity last night, though.  The Missourian, Post-Dispatch, KC Star and PowerMizzou have more.  MU-ATM is Saturday at 12:30pm.

Mutigers.com has the official preview of this weekend's Softball Super Regional in Tuscaloosa.  Anything's possible, but it will take quite a lot for Mizzou to advance...I'll be tuning in nonetheless, of course.

Dave Matter also has a really nice Super Regional write-up, pointing out that Alabama is built pretty much exactly like Mizzou...only better.

Setting the table nicely for a possible Gameday appearance, it was announced yesterday that the Mizzou-Illinois football season opener will be on ESPN at 6:45 pm August 30.

While we're on football, PowerMizzou has a smattering of recruiting articles on San Antonio CB James Green, Kansas LB Marshall Musil, Florida ATH Mywan Jackson, and Strafford OL Tyler Evans.

Finally, an update on former Tiger OF James Boone--he's back on the minor league disabled list with a right shoulder injury.  He had been doing pretty well with AA Altoona before the injury...injuries in general have very much stunted his development.
