The Trib: No party since 1999
This year’s Missouri team might employ a similar attack plan against Illinois (8-3) tomorrow. The Tigers (7-3) haven’t found a consistent inside presence, much like their predecessors from 10 years earlier, but they are attempting 22 3-point shots per game and connecting at an impressive 41-percent clip.
For former players such as Grawer, Dooling and Gilbert, the how won’t matter so long as Missouri figures out some way to end the streak.
Each has personally felt the disappointment of the past nine defeats, whether they were in the stands for most of them, as Grawer has been, or had to read about them from overseas after the fact, like Gilbert. They’re ready for the misery to end.
“We’ve got to do it,” Dooling said. “We’ve got to do it. We’ve got to do it.”
Added Gilbert: “If there’s any fire, any courage in the kids, it’s time for us to win it this year and forget about the past nine years.”
