The Trib (Dave Matter): Tigers get Navy in Texas Bowl
The Trib (Dave Matter): Tigers talk about Texas BowlIt was more velvet glove than iron fist, but Pinkel made some candid statements on the importance for Missouri fans to earn a reputation for traveling well to bowl games.
"You have to travel well to bowls," he said. "That’s part of the deal. Bowl representatives call other bowls and ask, ‘How did Missouri travel?’ They’ve got all the numbers. That is a huge factor when making decision on selecting a team. My statements is, You’re going to a bowl to watch your Missouri Tigers play. That’s what it’s about. You go to the Zou, you don’t care who the Missouri Tigers are playing. You’re going to see the Missouri Tigers play. And whoever happens to be there, that’s fine. Whoever happens to be in the bowl game, that’s fine. I think we’re trying to change that culture. And our fans have been remarkable. As we’re trying to grow, I think our fans have to also as we try to build our program and make it better for them, too."
For the record, Alnutt said Missouri brought 6,000 fans to the 2006 Sun Bowl ... 35,000 to the Jan. 1, 2008 Cotton Bowl ... and around 9,000 to last year's Alamo Bowl.

The National Championship Issue: Four Other Systems: 2009
[W]hile both of the eight-team setups are better than in years past, in both situations at least one conference champion or undefeated team is going to be left out. The Plus-ones don't work that well either, leaving out deserving teams as well.
This edition of the BCS is a lot like two previous editions - a lot of people thought in September that the matchup would be Texas & Alabama/Florida, ala USC & Texas 2005, and that's the way it worked out. But you also have three other undefeated teams in there, ala 2004. I'd say this one falls somewhere in between those two - of course it's not as perfect as the Trojan-Longhorn matchup, but it's not nearly as bad as the 2004 debacle. It's also much less controversial than the last three years too. So at least that's something.

That's right, if Texas would have lost, Cincinnati would have made the national title game, in part because their own coach voted them No. 1. And that's allowed. And yet we always blame THE COMPUTERS when the system fails us.
