PowerMizzou has a nice profile on Marcus Denmon, who has become "the forgotten freshman" as of late...
So what is the greatest Mizzou squad of all-time? A legitimate question to ask as Mizzou finds itself one win from tying its best tourney performance ever. Upon Further Review takes a neat look at the question...
6. 2008-09 (30-6, 12-4, 3rd, won tourney); Reached Sweet 16+
- NBA: n/a
- + DeMarre Carroll, Leo Lyons
- In NCAA: Beat Cornell 78-59, Beat Marquette 83-79, vs. Memphis
- Comment: The opportunity is still there for Mizzou to climb the ladder. In fact, if they run the table (just four more wins!), they'd have 34 wins, a conference title and a national championship. They'd have to be the best ever. If they lose to Memphis, I'd leave them slotted here. As for NBA-caliber talent, I don't see Carroll or Lyons making it at the next level. Of the younger players, I could see Kim English evolving into a Kevin Martin-type pro prospect and Laurence Bowers has a ton of raw ability. Maybe in a few years, we'll realize that this Tiger squad had a lot more talent than we realize now.
Finally, quickly to the diamond sports, where #13 Mizzou Softball moved to 27-4 with an easy 9-1 win over Houston yesterday (Stacy Delaney with the complete game), and, sigh, Mizzou Baseball lost to UIC, 6-4, to fall back below .500. Ian Berger was alright, giving up 4 runs in 7 innings. Mizzou took a 4-2 lead into the 8th, but Berger and Brad Buehler imploded a bit and Mizzou left with a loss. The Missourian has more.
