Meme Madness: Boulevard Regional Semifinals

In the vortex of large-scale athletic emptiness until football season begins again, we're passing the days here at Rock M Nation with Meme Madness, a 32-entry, bracket style blowout to determine the best theme/inside joke RMN has to offer. The full bracket can be found here.

Today, we feature the first semifinal in the Boulevard Regional.

Hopefully I'm not breaking any news to you when I tell you that Conan O'Brian's "Vroom Vroom Party Starter" commercial may have been the best commercial of early 2009, right alongside the Heineken beer closet commercial.

Rock M Nation needed Vroom Vroom Party Starter as a meme, and the community abided.

During the Kansas-Oklahoma basketball game in Norman, SleepyFloyd and I set about discussing the commercial and set forth to find an RMN connection.

Enter Laurence Bowers' above the rim antics. The high-flying freshman certainly knew how to start parties at Mizzou Arena this year with dunks bordering on f***diculous.

Since that fateful evening, the meme has taken off in such an amazing vertical fashion that it actually does justice to its namesake.

Allow me to quote myself from Laffy Saffy's first round matchup:

[Y]ou'd by lying to yourself if you thought this meme had a shot in this tournament.

OK, so maybe I was a little wrong. However, I was not wrong about what I said later on in the post:

However, you can't say enough about the upside for Laffy Saffy, both as a basketball player AND as a meme. Both came on strong at the end of the season with smart efforts and underrated contribution. Expect an increased role in both when the 2009-10 basketball season tips off.

Can the Cinderella No. 8 seed continue its magical run? Or is the devoured bacon in the first round going to slow it down?
