Mizzou Links, 6-5-09

Is it too much to ask to get some examples of the jokes told at last night's Mike Alden roast?  I mean, I'm glad everybody had a good time, and I'm VERY glad the event raised $50K for Alzheimer's research, but...not a single joke? Not one?

Here's a small, fun column from Dave Matter, encouraging Gary PInkel to embrace the Phil Steele Disrespect to its fullest advantage.

Blaine Dalton: probably not a felon.  Good to know.

A couple quick recruiting links from PowerMizzou.  First, MAILBAG!!!!!!!  Second, Mizzou has sent out a new offer to Norman (OK) North DB Xavier Smith, who looked really good at this week's Kansas City camp that he got an offer the next day.  He's one of the more interesting DBs to receive an offer so far.  Others include Klein (TX) CB Damion Payne (who's blown up and recently received an offer from OU), 4-star Maywood (IL) S Corey Cooper (who's a soft commit to Illinois but still looking at some visits), and of course, wonderfully-named San Antonio S Tommie Saunders.

And another recruiting blurb, this one from ESPN Insider ($).  Bruce Feldman visited a recent Elite 11 Camp at TCU:

After a couple stations, Brown notices an impressive QB he does not immediately recognize. James Franklin, a 6'3", 210-pounder from Lake Dallas High, is a big domino who has already committed to Missouri. Brown realizes that Franklin is important when the coaches put him in first to do the drills.

...

Banter between the quarterbacks is kept to a minimum; same with the parents, although Brown's mom does talk to Gabbert's dad, who delivers some potentially bad news. The younger Gabbert, the dad opines, probably won't sign with Mizzou, which already has Franklin. But Gabbert does want to stay close to home in Ballwin, Mo. Translation: Kansas sounds good.

A couple KU preview links from ESPN: a look at their defense by Tim Griffin, and an Insider ($) look at the running game.

Finally...it's Friday...bring it on...
